trans-Alkenylalanes, readily obtainable via hydroaluminiation of acetylenes, react readily with aryl bromides and iodides in the presence of catalytic amounts of nickel complexes, such as tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)- nickel, to produce arylated alkenes in high yields, the stereochemistry of the products being >99%trans.

Lithium trans-alkenyltrialkylaluminates, prepared by the hydroalumination of alkynes followed by treatment with n-butyl-lithium, react with epoxides to produce β-hydroxy-substituted trans-alkenes, which are readily convertible into βγ-unsaturated carbonyl derivatives.

Two types of palladium(II) complex, Pd(C4H4O3)(PPh3)2 and Pd(C2H2O2)(PPh3)(py), containing a carbon-bonded chelate ring of acetic anhydride and acetic acid, respectively, have been prepared by reactions of Pd(O2)(PPh3)2 with keten, and their molecular structures have been determined by X-ray diffraction.
