Music copyright management by audio separation method on content distribution

S. Matsuoka; Shin'ichi Takagi; Akihisa Kodate; Hideyoshi Tominaga

With the increasing use of low-cost, high performance digital video cameras, hardware and broadband networks, it has become easier to create and distribute multimedia content personally. However, content distribution using a personal library (music, image, logo, etc.) may violate content holders right. As a solution to this problem, we propose a new approach for music copyright protection on content distribution. The basic idea of this approach is to use audio separation techniques using a reference music source which is included in multimedia content. The algorithm uses transfer function estimation between actual output and the reference music source output signal. The benefits of this approach are: (1) simplicity in implementation; (2) low processing load; and (3) application flexibility in various acoustic fields. We also evaluate several results in various situations by this system.

Batcher banyan network with cell copy preparation stages for multicast switching

Shin'ichi Takagi; Yoshiaki Tanaka; Hideyoshi Tominaga

Multicast services will occupy a large portion of the B-ISDN traffic. However, even if one multicast service is watched by many subscribers, it occupies only one channel on the trunkline as multicast traffic is not dominant on the trunkline. Therefore, it is a waste to use non-blocking multicast ATM switching networks for transit switching systems because the hardware of a non-blocking multicast ATM switching network is large. This paper proposes to apply the Batcher banyan network, which is point-to-point non-blocking, to multicast transit switching systems. The blocking rate decreases substantially by placing cell copy preparation stages in front of the Batcher network.
