A multi-sample and multi-channel technique for conducting electrochemical experiments

Yugo Ashida; Shinichi Nishizawa

A potentiostat/galvanostat system is used for conducting electrochemical experiments in aqueous environments. The conventional method is to use one sample for investigation in each experiment. To maximize the usage of a single unit electrochemical testing system, a multi-sample and multi-channel technique was developed to simultaneously test multiple metal samples. In this paper, the following are described in detail. · preparation of a multi-sample testing piece as the working electrode of the electrochemical system; · configuration of a multi-channel data acquisition system for recording data when running a test; · separation of data channels by post-test data processing. This technique allows the electrochemical system to study corrosion behavior of multiple samples in the same testing solution under the same environmental conditions, so that the accuracy of material comparison can also be significantly improved.
