Geometrical representation of scattering cross section in cylindrical conductor: Apparent Poynting vector

In one treatment of the behavior of electromagnetic scattering, the electromagnetic energy flux density is represented by stream lines. In this paper, the Poynting vector of the total field as the sum of the incident field and the scattered field is separated into the incident flux, scattered flux, and coupled flux. They are represented as sums of the apparent incident and scattered fluxes proposed in this paper, and a physical image of electromagnetic scattering by a conductive cylinder is obtained. The total incident energy conveyed by this apparent incident flux is equal to the total energy scattered from the cylinder. Hence, by tracing this apparent incident flux and representing the width of its incidence on the scattering body, the scattering cross section can be expressed geometrically.
