Introduction: Catheter ablation on the left atrial posterior wall has been reported to potentially damage the esophagus or periesophageal vagal nerve. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of esophageal temperature monitoring (ETM) in preventing esophageal or periesophageal vagal nerve injury in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing pulmonary vein (PV) isolation.

Impact of ATP Reconduction on AF Recurrence.u2002Introduction: Adenosine can be associated with acute recovery of conduction to the pulmonary veins (PVs) immediately after isolation. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the response to adenosine predicts atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after a single ablation procedure in patients with paroxysmal AF.

Predictors of Recurrence after AF Ablation. Introduction: The objective of this study was to identify the simple preprocedural parameters of atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence following single ablation procedure in patients with paroxysmal AF during long‐term follow‐up period.

Left phrenic nerve injury (PNI) can occur during cryoballoon ablation of the left pulmonary veins (PVs). This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of monitoring the bilateral phrenic nerve function during cryoballoon ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF).

AF Ablation by Aortic Retrograde Approach Using an MNS.u2002 Stereotaxis remote magnetic navigation system (MNS) (St. Louis, MO, USA) is a new technology with applications in the field of catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias. We report a case where the Stereotaxis MNS was successfully used to perform pulmonary vein isolation by a retrograde approach in a patient with atrial fibrillation in whom transseptal access was impossible. This study aimed to determine the effects of continuing warfarin administration during the periprocedural period of catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) on the prevention of stroke complications and to evaluate the management of hemorrhagic complications occurring with this approach.

Pulmonary Vein Isolation Using a Second-Generation Cryoballoon in Patients With Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation: One-Year Outcome Using a Single Big-Balloon 3-Minute Freeze Technique.

Shinsuke Miyazaki; Hitoshi Hachiya; Hiroaki Nakamura; Hiroshi Taniguchi; Takamitsu Takagi; Kenzo Hirao; Yoshito Iesaka

The second‐generation cryoballoon (CB) has been recently introduced into clinical use for pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). Data on the feasibility, long‐term outcome, and optimal freeze cycle are still limited. We assessed the 1‐year clinical outcome after second‐generation CB ablation with single 3‐minute freeze techniques, and clinical variables associated with AF recurrence.

Shinsuke Miyazaki; Masateru Takigawa; Shigeki Kusa; Taishi Kuwahara; Hiroshi Taniguchi; Kenji Okubo; Hiroaki Nakamura; Hitoshi Hachiya; Kenzo Hirao; Atsushi Takahashi; Yoshito Iesaka

It is well known that superior vena cava (SVC) is one of the important non‐pulmonary vein (PV) foci of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, little is known regarding the role of arrhythmogenic SVC in AF.
