New linear variable differential transformer with square coils

Yoshio Kano; Shinya Hasebe; Hicoshi Miyaji

A novel long stroke linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) which gives a linear analog position detecting signal is investigated. This simple-structure LVDT consists of a core, an exciting coil, and two detecting coils, and it gives good linearity. The relationships among the width of the excitation coil, the core length, the number of cores, and the position of the detection coils were investigated. When the linear range is 90% or less of the core stroke, the detection error is 0.45% or less. >

About treatment of gauge of a in 3-D magnetostatic analysis

Shinya Hasebe; Y. Kano

This paper explains the treatment of gauge of A in connection with the boundary value problem of the Poisson equation of A. It is clarified that the condition derived from the gauge exists with addition to the physical boundary condition. As a result, it is indicated that the boundary value problem of the scalar Poisson equation can be extended to that of the vector Poisson equation. In the formulation using the Ritz method, the Lagrange multiplier method is satisfied by the the boundary value problem of the vector Poisson equation. Thus, this method is adequate in comparison with the penalty method.

Effect of the velocity of secondary conductor on eddy current and body force in annular type LIM

Shinya Hasebe; Y. Kano

This paper investigates the annular type LIM disregarding the edge effect. Using the Fourier transform, the FEM solution is translated in the space of wave numbers. The effect of velocity V on eddy current is clarified in the moving coordinate. Also, the Fourier spectrum of body force is divided into forward, backward and alternating components to clearly indicate the effect of V on such components.
