A Novel Human Detection Approach Based on Depth Map via Kinect

Yujie Shen; Zhonghua Hao; Pengfei Wang; Shiwei Ma; Wanquan Liu

In this paper, a new method of human detection based on depth map from 3D sensor Kinect is proposed. First, the pixel filtering and context filtering are employed to roughly repair defects on the depth map due to information inaccuracy captured by Kinect. Second, a dataset consisting of depth maps with various indoor human poses is constructed as benchmark. Finally, by introducing Kirsch mask and three-value codes to Local Binary Pattern, a novel Local Ternary Direction Pattern (LTDP) feature descriptor is extracted and is used for human detection with SVM as classifier. The performance for the proposed approach is evaluated and compared with other five existing feature descriptors using the same SVM classifier. Experiment results manifest the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Performance study of feature descriptors for human detection on depth map

Pengfei Wang; Shiwei Ma; Yujie Shen

Depth map contains the space information of objects and is almost free from the influence of light, and it attracts many research interests in the field of machine vision used for human detection. Therefore, hunting a suitable image feature for human detection on depth map is rather attractive. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of the typical features on depth map. A depth map dataset containing various indoor scenes with human is constructed by using Microsofts Kinect camera as a quantitative benchmark for the study of methods of human detection on depth map. The depth map is smoothed with pixel filtering and context filtering so as to reduce particulate noise. Then, the performance of five image features and a new feature is studied and compared for human detection on the dataset through theoretic analysis and simulation experiments. Results show that the new feature outperforms other descriptors.

Hui Chen; Shiwei Ma; Bo Sun; Yujie Shen

3D reconstruction has been recognised as an important cue for tasks like active computer vision and image understanding. However, most existing techniques need to calibrate the intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of the projector, making the calculation very complex. This paper presents an active vision method of multicolour pseudo-random encoded projected for recovering the 3D shape of surface from one calibrated image, based on projection ray intersecting location. This method combines geometric and photometric information in order to reconstruct 3D shape only calibrating camera parameters and projection rays. Based on the thought of ray intersecting location, by projecting pseudo-random coded pattern onto surface of object, using a projected ray of a feature point at projector side, and an imaging ray of the same feature point received by camera, the 3D reconstruction is implemented by seeking the intersection point of the projected ray and the imaging ray. We show a number of examples to demonstrate the accuracy of the method. Experimental results on the real world images show that the proposed method reconstructs the 3D shape of objects very efficiently.

Face detection and recognition method based on skin color and depth information

Junfeng Qian; Shiwei Ma; Zhonghua Hao; Yujie Shen

An improved face detection and recognition method based on information of skin color and depth obtained by binocular vision system was proposed in this paper. With this method, the face area was detected firstly by using Adaboost algorithm. Afterwards, the real face was distinguished from fake one by using the skin color information and the depth data. Then, by using PCA algorithm, a specific face can be recognized by comparing the principal components of the current face to those of the known individuals in a facial database built in advance. This method was applied to a service robot equipped with a binocular camera system for real-time face detection and recognition experiment, and satisfactory results were obtained.

Hui Chen; Shiwei Ma; Bo Sun; Zhonghua Hao; Liusun Fu

This paper proposes a 3D-shape reconstruction method based on coded structured light. Projecting color pseudo-random coded pattern on surface of object and using the thought of ray intersecting location, 3D shape reconstruction can be implemented by seeking the intersection point of the projection ray and the imaging ray. The former is projected ray of a feature point at projector side, and the later is image ray of the same feature point received by camera. Experimental results show that this method is effective.

In view of some shortcomings of the existing rectal function diagnosis method, we propose that use the artificial anal sphincter system to collect the human rectal pressure signal, and then achieve the diagnosis of human rectal status through the rectal function diagnosis model. Since the collected signal is not pure rectal pressure signal, the single-dimensional pressure signal is extended to a multidimensional time series by phase space reconstruction. And then preprocessing of the reconstructed signal is carried out by the improved fifteenth order Newton iteration Fast ICA algorithm. The improved algorithm is simulated and the better separation effect is realized, proving the feasibility of the algorithm.

Junfeng Qian; Shiwei Ma; Yulin Xu; Xin Li; Yujie Shen

A binocular vision system and its application to face detection and tracking in robot is introduced in this paper. With the vision system, the robot can do face detection, identification, recognition and tracking. The face area is detected in realtime by using AdaBoost algorithm. And a method is proposed with which a real face can be distinguished from a picture one by using skin color information and depth data. A specific face can be recognized by comparing the principal components of the current face to those of the known individuals in a face database built in advance. Finally, the robot can track a specified face according to depth of the face and position of a face rectangle in the frame. Experiment results are given and discussed.

Design and application of business oriented model based on meet-in-the-middle method

Liusun Fu; Shiwei Ma; Chaozu Liang

The BOA framework in which BOM is the basis has attracted much attention in developing ERP system of SMEs for solving the problem of information combination. In this paper, in order to provide VSP in BOA framework with large grain reusable module, to improve developing efficiency and reduce development and maintenance costs of ERP systems, a BOM based reconfigurable developing method is presented. According to the idea of BOA and convergent evolution, a design principle to develop BOM by using the approach of meet-in-the-middle formatting is proposed. A rapid VSP developing process by managing BOM and configuring BOM instances has also put forward. At the end of the paper, the feasibility of the reusable development method is illustrated with an application example.

Binocular structured light stereo matching approach for dense facial disparity map

Shiwei Ma; Yujie Shen; Junfeng Qian; Hui Chen; Zhonghua Hao; Lei Yang

Binocular stereo vision technology shows a particular interesting for face recognition, in which the accurate stereo matching is the key issue for obtaining dense disparity map used for exploiting 3D shape information of object. This paper proposed a binocular structured light stereo matching approach to deal with the challenge of stereo matching to objects having large disparity and low texture, such as facial image. By introducing global system to coordinate the binocular camera and projector, a projector cast structured light pattern which added texture to the face scene. Binocular epipolar constraint and semi-global stereo matching algorithm were applied. The experiments showed that the accuracy had improved compared to that of purely binocular vision for getting dense facial disparity map.

Shiwei Ma; Zhaowen Kong; Xuelin Jiang; Chaozu Liang

This paper put forward the definition of business oriented architecture (BOA) for the development of enterprise management information system and its technical components, as well as the designing method of reusable component based on business oriented model (BOM). This method uses JDOM to generate and analyze the properties of configuration files with XML format, and realizes the interaction between basic middleware and configuration software by using AJAX. It can give different page styles using JavaScript and has properties of short period of designing and good flexibility. An example in the development of a management information system based on BOA for a machine manufacturing factory is introduced. In which, most of the components was designed with the proposed method. It manifests that the BOA framework can be a good choice to meet the needs of different customers and to reduce system development cycle.
