Motocross is a high-risk sport that can cause serious injuries including oral injuries. However, mouthguard use is not mandatory in motocross. This report describes a case of an oral laceration with exposure of bilateral inferior alveolar nerves as a result of a motocross accident in which the patient was not wearing a mouthguard.

OBJECTIVE To present a case of Adult-onset Stills disease (AOSD) initially suspected to be odontogenic inflammation. BACKGROUND Adult-onset Stills disease is a rare, complex autoinflammatory disease and a known cause of fever of unknown origin. MATERIALS AND METHODS The patient had both a fever and dental pain. Following meticulous examination, the patient was diagnosed with AOSD. CONCLUSION Clinicians should keep in mind that a patient such as AOSD may visit their clinics.

OBJECTIVE To present a rare case of persistent bleeding from the tooth extraction socket in a patient with chronic disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). BACKGROUND Acute exacerbation of chronic DIC occurs by various trigger factors. CLINICAL REPORT The patients chronic DIC in association with thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm was activated by tooth extraction, resulting in persistent bleeding from the socket. CONCLUSION Patients with chronic DIC may have persistent bleeding following tooth extraction.

OBJECTIVE To present a case of Huntingtons disease (HD) with severe neck infection. BACKGROUND Huntingtons disease (HD) is a progressive neurodegenerative genetic disorder and is often accompanied by dysphagia. MATERIALS AND METHODS The patient was a 64-year-old man with HD. The severe neck infection was considered as one of the symptoms of HD. CONCLUSION Clinicians should remember that patients with HD are apt to delay dental consultation, resulting in serious oral infections.

Introduction: Maxillary sinus lift combined with implant placement without grafting allows bone formation in the sinus. However, bone volume in severely atrophic maxilla is often insufficient to ensure initial stability of implants. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcome of maxillary sinus augmentation by graft-free two-stage sinus lift using titanium bone fixation device and implants. Materials and Methods: Maxillary sinus lift was performed in 7 sinuses of 6 patients with atrophic posterior maxilla by two-stage sinus lift without grafts. The first sinus lift was performed by a lateral approach using bone fixation device, and second by a crestal approach with implants. Alveolar crest height (ACH) after first and second sinus lift was evaluated radiographically, and implant survival were recorded. Results: The mean preoperative ACH was 3.4 ± 1.3 mm (range, 1.5 4.8 mm). After first sinus lift, mean postoperative ACH was 7.3 ± 1.5 mm (range, 3.5 9.5 mm). A total of 13 implants were placed in maxillary alveolar crest after first sinus lift, and mean postoperative ACH after second sinus lift with implant placement was 9.4 ± 0.8 mm (range, 8.0 11.0 mm). The implant survival rate was 100%. Conclusions: New bone can be generated in space adequately maintained under the elevated sinus membrane, and repeated elevation of the sinus membrane increases the bone volume. *Corresponding author: Takahiro Kaneko, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Saitama Medical Center, Saitama Medical University, Kamoda, Kawagoe, Saitama 350-8550, Japan,Tel: +81-49-228-3687; Fax: +81-49-225-1677; E-mail: [email protected]
