A Histological study on the ulcerative change of the stomach

Shunta Hirose

In the course of the progress of the maIignant ulcers, the various status was observed, including not only the remission or the disappearance of the ulcers but the recurrence of them. The easiness of diagnosis of the malignant ulcers seemed to depend on their status. For this study, 7 cases of early cancer and 3 cases of advanced cancer were provided. The courses up to the remission or the disappearance of the malignant ulcers ranged from less than 1 month to 12 months, showing no difference between the early cancer and the advanced cancer. In 4 of 7 cases of the early cancer diagnosed as the benign ulcers at the first observation, the suspicion or the confirmation of the malignancy was induced after the contraction or the disappearance of the ulcers. Speaking more precisely, the surrounding conditions of the ulcers such as erosion, edema and hemorrhage covered the superficial carcinomatous infiltration in the active stage. While, in the apparent remission stage, the above-mentioned surrounding findings disappeared and the carcinomatous findings would become obvious. In 2 of 7 cases of the early cancer, the correct the diagnosis could not be made through ei ther the rentogenographic or the endoscopic examinations but could be made by the biopsy. The gastroscopic biopsy should be insisted to be performed against the doubtful findings of the ulcers.
