The novel organic-inorganic hybrid material [Cd(PT)(H2O)]n (1; PT = phthalate) has been hydrothermally synthesized. The X-ray diffraction study reveals that 1 exhibits an interesting two-dimensional (2D) honeycomb framework constructed from [CdO7] single helical chains linked via oxygen atoms of the PT ligands, which adopt the μ6-bridging coordination mode. A study of the physical properties of 1 demonstrates that it exhibits a strong fluorescent emission in the solid state at room temperature.

A novel organic-inorganic hybrid vanadium oxide [V4O10(o-phen)(2)], involving all vanadium atoms present in +5 oxidation, has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis, ESR, XPS spectra and TG-DTA thermal analysis. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction shows that the red-brown crystal is formed in the triclinic system, space group P (1) over bar, a = 9.782(2), b = 6.5124(14), c = 19.765(4) Angstrom, alpha = 89.94(2)degrees, beta = 100.66(2)degrees, gamma = 89.86(2)degrees. The title compound exhibits an infinite one-dimensional ladder-type tetravanadate skeleton with organonitrogen donors of o-phenanthroline ligands coordinated directly to the vanadium oxide framework.

A novel organic/inorganic hybrid molybdenum phosphate, [NH3(CH2CH2)2NH3]3[NH3(CH2CH2)2NH2]Na5-[Mo6O12(OH)3(PO4)(HPO4)3]2·4H2O (1), involving molybdenum presented in V oxidation, has been hydrothermally prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, i.r., u.v.–vis., x.p.s., t.g. and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure of the title compound (1) may be considered to consist of two [Mo6O12(OH)3(PO4)(HPO4)3] units bonded together with NaO6 octahedra, forming dimers. Further, these dimers connect with each other through four Na+ cations as bridges, giving rise to novel one-dimensional chain-like skeleton. Piperazines exist among inorganic chains acting as charge balancing cations.

Abstract A novel one-dimensional vanadium(V)-organic coordination polymer [{VO2(2,2′-bipy)}2(tp)]∞ (1) has been hydrothermally synthesized from the reaction of V2O5, 2,2′-bipyridine, and terephthalate. It has been characterized by IR, XPS, TGA and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Its structure is constructed from dimers of edge-sharing vanadium(V) octahedra with covalently bonded 2,2′-bipy ligands, linked through bicarboxylate tp ligands into an infinite zigzag chain. Extensive hydrogen-bond contacts and strong π–π interactions lead to a layered framework of the solid of 1.

Two novel organic-inorganic hybrid complexes [(CuX)(2)(o-phen)](infinity) (X = Br (1), Cl (2); o-phen = o-phenanthroline) have been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized structurally by elemental analyses, IR, ESR, XPS spectrum, TG analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both title compounds exhibit novel one-dimensional chainlike copper halide scaffolding constructed by the unusual [Cu3X3] hexagon motifs by sharing opposite edges, where a single Cu site of each [Cu3X3] hexagon is chelated with N donors of o-phen group. To our knowledge, such basic o-phen-copper halide skeleton has not been reported hitherto. Moreover, TG analyses indicate that both title compounds possess high thermal stability.

A new polyoxometalate derivative {PW9V3O40[Ag(2,2′-bipy)]2[Ag2(2,2′-bipy)3]2} 1 has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by the single crystal X-ray diffraction. X-Ray analysis showed that both [Ag(2,2′-bipy)]+ and [Ag2(2,2′-bipy)3]2+ units are supported on the α-Keggin polyoxoanion [PW9V3O40]6−via the surface bridging oxygen atoms. 1 represents the first α-Keggin type polyoxoanion coordinated with four transition metal complex moieties, which further acts as a neutral molecular units for the construction of an interesting three-dimensional supramolecular framework.
