Simple and accurate solution of the scattering coefficients of the E-plane right-angle bend in rectangular waveguide is presented. The solution is obtained by the mode-matching method in which the electromagnetic fields in waveguides are matched with those in junction section formed by a sectoral region. In the same procedure, the solutions of the scattering coefficients of the E-plane T-junction and the cross junction can be also obtained easily. By using the numerical results, the scattering properties of the dominant modes and higher-order modes in the E-plane right-angle bend are examined in detail.

Rigorous representations of expansion with a modal function, reflection, and transmission coefficients for the electromagnetic field at the junction between a sector horn and a rectangular waveguide are obtained. So far, this problem has been approximately treated by limiting the mode number of the electromagnetic field expansion or the flare angle of the horn. The electromagnetic fields at the discontinuity are expanded by a modal function of integer order. As a result, rigorous solutions are simply obtained by the orthogonality of a trigonometric function without any qualification. By using the numerical results calculated from these representations with strict accuracy, the transmission properties at the junction between a sector horn and a rectangular waveguide are examined in detail. >

Abstract We present a mode-matching method to analyze scattering characteristics of the E-plane Y-junction with an arbitrary angle in a rectangular waveguide. The overlapping of continuous and discontinuous sections of the waveguide guarantees the existence of true solutions in the method. We consider the scattering characteristics of the dominant and higher-order modes using quasi-analytical solutions.
