Abstract Reductive dimerization of N -alkylimines into vicinal diamines has been performed by the action of a catalytic amount of lead(II) bromide and aluminum (1 equiv.) in THF containing trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) or aluminum(III) bromide.

A novel mono and/or double allylation of acetals is achieved by the action of allyl bromide, aluminium metal, and a catalytic amount of PbBr2 and AlBr3 in tetrahydrofuran.

Abstract An electroreductive “ Barbier Type ” allylation of imines with allyl bromide has been performed in a PbBr 2 /Bu 4 NBr/THF-(Al anode)-(Pt cathode) system. A combination of Pb(0)/Pb(II) redox and a sacrificial aluminum anode works as a mediator for both cathodic and anodic electron transfer processes, respectively.

Abstract A novel three metal redox system, NiCl 2 (bpy)/PbBr 2 /Al, is found to be potent in the reductive coupling of vinyl halides, affording 1,4-biaryl-1,3-butadienes, precursors of terphenyl derivatives.
