Effect of pressure after casting on high strength fibre reinforced mortar

Abstract This study investigates the effects of applying pressure after casting on the flexural response of high strength fibre reinforced mortar in which up to 5% fibres by volume were premixed. High mortar strength was achieved by reducing mix porosity (low water-cement ratio), adding fly ash and using superplasticisers. Variables included eigth different types of fibre, their volume fraction in the mix, two mortar matrices, two values of pressure after casting, and the casting orientation. It is found that pressure improves the proportional limit and the flexural strength of the composite but may lead to a deterioration in its postcracking response and toughness. Composite moduli of rupture of more than 5000 psi (37 MPa) are observed with steel fibres while highest toughness indices of up to 90 are reported with polypropylene fibres. It is concluded that the application of pressure after casting to improve composite properties is not economically justifiable.

Estudio de dos materiales volcánicos y efecto del tipo de molienda en su reactividad

This study presents the results of characterization and evaluation of pozzolanic activity of two Colombian volcanic materials from different sources (Purace volcano and the snowy of Tolima). These materials were analyzed by scanning electron microscope, X-ray fluorescence, X-ray powder diffraction, thermal analysis, and petrographic study, among others. The ability of volcanic materials as pozzolans and the grinding effect were evaluated by pozzolanic activity index, Frattini´s test and calorimetry test. The results of this research showed that the Purace volcanic material has physical and chemical characteristics to be considered as natural pozzolan; while the Tolima volcanic material does not react chemically, but this material generates an increase in the mortars strength due to the filler effect. Comportamiento mecánico de un concreto fluido adicionado con ceniza de cascarilla de arroz (CCA) y reforzado con fibras de acero

En los ultimos anos, la industria de la construccion ha venido adicionando materiales puzolanicos y fibras de refuerzo al concreto convencional con la finalidad de mejorar su desempeno y de disminuir el consumo de cemento. El estudio del comportamiento mecanico de los concretos fibrorreforzados es un tema clave para optimizar y potenciar el uso de este material en la industria de la construccion. En este trabajo, se realiza un estudio experimental sobre la influencia que tiene la incorporacion de volumenes bajos de fibras de acero (Vf: 0,3%, 0,5%, y 0,7%) en las propiedades mecanicas de un concreto fluido adicionado con un 20% de CCA como reemplazo parcial del cemento. Con base a los resultados obtenidos, se puede afirmar que la incorporacion del 0,7% de fibras de acero al concreto adicionado genero un incremento del 1026% en la tenacidad, del 42% en la resistencia a la traccion y del 12% en el modulo de elasticidad. Las caracteristicas del concreto adicionado y reforzado con fibras de acero sugieren la posibilidad de su utilizacion para pavimentacion de vias y abren nuevas posibilidades para otros campos de aplicacion de este material en el sector de la construccion. Concretos autocompactantes a partir de lodo calcáreo de la industria papelera

En este articulo se estudiaron las propiedades en estado fresco y endurecido de un concreto autocompactante adicionado con lodo calcareo proveniente de una industria papelera (CALC) en proporciones de 35% y 50% en peso de cemento como adicion mineral. Se utilizo como referencia un concreto autocompactante adicionado con caliza comercial molida (CACC). Las propiedades evaluadas de los concretos autocompactantes incluyeron trabajabilidad, resistencia a la compresion, modulo de elasticidad, porosidad y absorcion, y succion capilar. La trabajabilidad del concreto autocompactante en estado fresco se determino utilizando el cono de Abrams, la caja en L y el embudo en V. La resistencia a la compresion se evaluo a diferentes dias de curado (3, 7, 28 y 90 dias), los ensayos de permeacion se realizaron a 28 dias de curado y el modulo de elasticidad se determino a 90 dias de curado. Los resultados mostraron que a 28 dias de curado los concretos autocompactantes adicionados con 35% de la caliza comercial molida (CACC-2) presentaron una resistencia a la compresion superior en un 16,4% en comparacion con los concretos adicionados con 35% de lodo calcareo (CALC-2). A su vez, estas mezclas se destacan por presentar menor porosidad y mayor resistencia a la penetracion de agua. Obtaining a self-compacting concrete with finely ground coal slag

Among the different technologies with important implications today in such areas as education, health and business, videostreaming is highlighted. This considering how this technology facilitates the access to multimedia content remotely, live or offline. The goal of this paper is to propose a test environment for the support of the video streaming service, using open source tools. Moreover, this work proposes, as part of the environment, a stress measurement tool (Hermes), which allows obtaining the response times to establish multiple RTSP connections to streaming servers. The methodology used in this work is divided into four phases: analysis of technologies and tools, configuration of the video streaming environment, design and implementation of Hermes, and finally tests. This methodology allowed the construction of the test environment and its evaluation, through the stress measurement tool Hermes. Finally, in this work we demonstrate how the proposed environment becomes a reference point for different application environments that require the implementation of a video streaming service.Se aplico la mecanica de solidos hiperelasticos al estudio del comportamiento del tubo arterial, ya que es un medio consolidado en la comprension de fenomenos de interes para los profesionales de la medicina y de la ingenieria biomedica. En el caso del organo en cuestion, su estudio se realizo mediante el modelado como un recipiente cilindrico de pared gruesa, donde la funcion de energia empleada permitio considerar aspectos microestructurales como la anisotropia y la dispersion de fibras de colageno. En el problema de equilibrio estatico en el que se implementa esta caracterizacion se representaron las capas media y adventicia de la pared arterial. La solucion expedita del problema de valores en la frontera resultante es posible gracias a la asuncion de un patron de deformacion de simetria axial. Se encontro que el factor de dispersion de fibras y los demas parametros adimensionales del mismo orden de magnitud tienen el rol dominante en la rigidez radial del tubo arterial. Los resultados se presentan utilizando grupos adimensionales, lo cual facilita la interpretacion rapida del efecto de los numerosos parametros que emergen

This work presents the three-year results of the project: Effect of the environment on reinforcement durability (DURACON), which is investigating the influence of the meteorochemical parameters of marine and coastal-marine environments on concrete durability performance, by measuring the electrochemical parameters (corrosion rate and corrosion potential) of the embedded reinforcing steel. To that effect, concrete specimens were exposed to the marine environments making a total of 21 test stations distributed among ten countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, Uruguay, Portugal and Venezuela). This paper presents the reinforcement electrochemical evaluation, which allows identifying its corrosion activation. The chloride ions concentration which induces the reinforcement corrosion is also presented, depending on the environment to which the concrete specimens were exposed.
