Isoindolinones via a room temperature palladium nanoparticle-catalysed 3-component cyclative carbonylation–amination cascade

Ronald Grigg; Lixin Zhang; Simon Collard; Ann Keep

Abstract A room temperature 3-component cascade process involving nucleophilic substitution/carbonylation/amination, catalysed by palladium nanoparticles generated in situ from palladacycle 5 , affords isoindolinones in good yields. The conversions correlate with the p K a values of the amines.

Palladium catalysed [2 + 2 + 1] intramolecular cycloaddition for the preparation of bicyclo[3.3.0]octa-1.5-dien-3-ones from 1,6-diynesElectronic supplementary information (ESI) available: experimental. See http://www.rsc.org/suppdata/cc/b3/b302841k/

Palladium catalysed [2 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition of 1,6-heptadiynes with CO (1 atm) furnishes bicyclo[3.3.0]octa-1,5-dien-3-ones in 30-74% yield.

Pyrazole and benzothiazole palladacycles: stable and efficient catalysts for carbon–carbon bond formation

Xinjie Gai; Ronald Grigg; M. Imran Ramzan; Visuvanathar Sridharan; Simon Collard; Jayne E. Muir

Cyclopalladated phosphine free pyrazole complexes 1 and benzothiazole complexes 2 are excellent catalysts for the Heck vinylation of aryl iodides and termolecular queuing cascades, leading to turnover numbers of >106 in some cases, at moderate temperatures; these catalysts show high thermal stability and are not sensitive to moisture and air.

Palladium catalysed 3-component cascade synthesis of bis(2-arylallyl) tertiary amines from aryl iodides, allene and primary amines

Xinjie Gai; Ronald Grigg; Simon Collard; Jayne E. Muir

A 3-component cascade synthesis of bis(2-arylallyl) tertiary amines from aryl iodide, allene and primary aliphatic amines is described; chiral amines give analogous products with no detectable racemisation; mixtures of two different aryl iodides can be utilised to give the mixed tertiary amines as the sole, or major, product; the reaction is sensitive to stereoelectronic effects which lead to mono(2-arylallyl) secondary amines.
