Double Sampling with Ranked Set Selection in the Second Phase with Nonresponse: Analytical Results and Monte Carlo Experiences

Gaajendra K. Agarwal; Sira Allende; Carlos N. Bouza

This paper is devoted to the study of the behavior of the use of double sampling for dealing with nonresponses, when ranked set sample is used. The characteristics of the sampling strategies are derived. The structure of the errors generated the need of studying of the optimality of the strategies by performing a set Monte Carlo experiments.

Peer selection in P2P wireless mesh networks: comparison of different strategies

Lissette Valdés; Soraya Montesinos; A. Ariza; Sira Allende; Gonzalo Joya

In this paper, we study the use of various strategies for selecting the server node in Peer to Peer networks, which are especially oriented networks with limited resources such as wireless mesh networks based on WiFi technology. We examine three different strategies: Random, the currently most used one, in which the server node is randomly chosen, Min-Hop, that selects the path with the least number of hops, and Purely Fuzzy, where the selection is made from a fuzzy inference process using the number of hops and the ETX cost (Expected Transmission Count) as fuzzy inputs. We analyze two different transmission scenarios: without obstacles and with obstacles between nodes. Results show that the currently more extended random strategy is the least efficient in most of cases, Min-Hop and Purely Fuzzy have a very similar behavior in networks without obstacles, and Purely Fuzzy is clearly more efficient in networks with obstacles. The study of performance was carried out using a wireless network simulation tool for discrete event simulation OMNeT++.

Study of alternative strategies to selection of peer in P2P wireless mesh networks

Lissette Valdés; A. Ariza; Sira Allende; Rubén Parada; Gonzalo Joya

In this paper we study the use of various strategies for selecting the server node in a P2P network, especially oriented networks with limited resources such as wireless mesh networks (WMN) based on WiFi technology. Three strategies are examined: Min-Hop, using the path with least number of hops, Min-Hop-Fuzzy, where in case of several paths with equal length an additional criterion of selection based on fuzzy logic is applied; and Purely Fuzzy, where the selection is made exclusively from a fuzzy inference process. These strategies based on resource optimization criteria are an alternative to the currently used, which are based on information sharing criteria. The study of performance was carried out using a wireless network simulation tool for discrete event simulation OMNeT + +. A comparison of the results for the different approaches is presented.

Optimal post-stratification for the study of the sustainability: An application to the monitoring of diversity in Sierra de Guerrero

Sira Allende; Carlos N. Bouza; Dante Covarubias

The need of designing a monitoring network in Sierra de Guerrero motivated this paper. The study of the effect of deforestation of the forest needs of monitoring in the diversity. A quantitative evaluation of diversity is measured by estimating an index. Commonly the monitoring of biodiversity is based on the periodical selection of samples for evaluating the diversity. We propose to use sample information for determining post strata. They must constitute homogeneous zones in the forest. A stochastic program is developed for determining the post strata to be used for sampling. The procedure seems to be a good alternative with respect to the use of a heuristic procedure. The results presented are based on the data obtained in a research developed at one of the most important forest diversity reservoirs of Mexico

Study of the industrialization-ability of the production of mescal in Guerrero-Mexico

Sira Allende; Carlos N. Bouza; Dante Covarrubias; Housila Sharkar

We considered the modeling of the evaluation of projects for industrializing the artisanal production of mescal. A Decision Support system is modeled for determining the priorities of the tasks. The ability for evaluating projects is considered. Data provided from a large research developed in Guerrero provided data for generating scenarios and evaluating behavior of the system.
