Modeling, inference and optimization of regulatory networks based on time series data

Gerhard-Wilhelm Weber; Ozlem Defterli; Sırma Zeynep Alparslan Gök; Erik Kropat

In this survey paper, we present advances achieved during the last years in the development and use of OR, in particular, optimization methods in the new gene-environment and eco-finance networks, based on usually finite data series, with an emphasis on uncertainty in them and in the interactions of the model items. Indeed, our networks represent models in the form of time-continuous and time-discrete dynamics, whose unknown parameters we estimate under constraints on complexity and regularization by various kinds of optimization techniques, ranging from linear, mixed-integer, spline, semi-infinite and robust optimization to conic, e.g., semi-definite programming. We present different kinds of uncertainties and a new time-discretization technique, address aspects of data preprocessing and of stability, related aspects from game theory and financial mathematics, we work out structural frontiers and discuss chances for future research and OR application in our real world.

Conic scalarization approach to solve multi-choice multi-objective transportation problem with interval goal

Sankar Kumar Roy; Gurupada Maity; Gerhard-Wilhelm Weber; Sırma Zeynep Alparslan Gök

This paper explores the study of multi-choice multi-objective transportation problem (MCMTP) under the light of conic scalarizing function. MCMTP is a multi-objective transportation problem (MOTP) where the parameters such as cost, demand and supply are treated as multi-choice parameters. A general transformation procedure using binary variables is illustrated to reduce MCMTP into MOTP. Most of the MOTPs are solved by goal programming (GP) approach, but the solution of MOTP may not be satisfied all times by the decision maker when the objective functions of the proposed problem contains interval-valued aspiration levels. To overcome this difficulty, here we propose the approaches of revised multi-choice goal programming (RMCGP) and conic scalarizing function into the MOTP, and then we compare among the solutions. Two numerical examples are presented to show the feasibility and usefulness of our paper. The paper ends with a conclusion and an outlook on future studies.

Alternative Axiomatic Characterizations of the Grey Shapley Value

Sırma Zeynep Alparslan Gök; Osman Palanci; Mehmet Onur Olgun

The Shapley value, one of the most common solution concepts of cooperative game theory is defined and axiomatically characterized in different game-theoretic models. Certainly, the Shapley value can be used in interesting sharing cost/reward problems in the Operations Research area such as connection, routing, scheduling, production and inventory situations. In this paper, we focus on the Shapley value for cooperative games, where the set of players is finite and the coalition values are interval grey numbers. The central question in this paper is how to characterize the grey Shapley value. In this context, we present two alternative axiomatic characterizations. First, we characterize the grey Shapley value using the properties of efficiency, symmetry and strong monotonicity. Second, we characterize the grey Shapley value by using the grey dividends.

A game-theoretical and cryptographical approach to crypto-cloud computing and its economical and financial aspects

Baris Bulent Kirlar; Serap Ergün; Sırma Zeynep Alparslan Gök; Gerhard-Wilhelm Weber

Recently, crypto-cloud computing has become an interesting research area with many technical, security, commercial and financial aspects, goals and consequences. The original intention of the cloud is to link computing stations (services) for collaboration. Sharing and coordination of computational resources is important because of the activities between service providers and service requesters. Considering the cooperative functionality of crypto-cloud computing, the use of game theory in that area has became very beneficial. In the sequel, we mathematically associate that area with game theory, i.e., the bargaining and compromising of interests of various “players”, by using a game-theoretical approach which arises from networks, servers, operating systems, storage devices, etc. Further, we propose a novel efficient encryption system by using XTR (effective and compact subgroup trace representation) which has the property of semantic security. Those interactions has been constructed in the direction of how cryptographic tools can be used to address a natural optimization problem in the fields of game theory and financial economics. It is believed that game theory and its optimization is going to provide a suitable framework for the design of a crypto-cloud computing system that will be perceived as a strong technique and satisfy the needs of many participants and users of the cloud. The paper ends with a conclusion and an outlook to future studies.

A Study on the Using of Game Theory in Sustainable Construction

Pınar Usta; Serap Ergün; Sırma Zeynep Alparslan Gök

In recent years, population growth, consumption of natural resources as a result of industrialization and urbanization, environmental issues have increased rapidly and this increase has reached dangerous proportions. Therefore, Environmental concept has influenced the structure of the planning discipline, ecological approach to planning and sustainability has gained importance. In this area, using different methods have been made in the quest to produce fast and effective solutions. Game theory approach, which can be given as an example of such methods, is seen planning and structure design in the content of sustainability. In this paper, studies on the sustainability and game theory concepts in the literature have been investigated and evaluated, as a whole.

Cooperative Grey Games: Grey Solutions and an Optimization Algorithm

Osman Palanci; Mehmet Onur Olgun; Serap Ergün; Sırma Zeynep Alparslan Gök; Gerhard-Wilhelm Weber

In this paper, some set-valued solutions using grey payoffs, namely, the grey core, the grey dominance core, and the grey stable sets of cooperative grey games are introduced and studied. The findings of the study demonstrated the relations between the grey core, the grey dominance core, and stable sets of grey cooperative games. Moreover, we present a linear programming (LP) problem for the grey core. We also suggest a corresponding optimization-based algorithm that demonstrates the grey core element of a cooperative grey game. Finally, we introduce an application of how cooperative grey game theory can be used to model users’ behaviors in various multimedia social networks. The paper ends with a conclusion and an outlook for future investigations.
