Real time mailbox alert system via SMS or email

Siva Kumar Subramaniam; Siti Huzaimah Husin; Yusmarnita Yusop; Abdul Hamid Hamidon

Upon receiving new mails or letters in their mailbox, most users do not get notified of this fact. They have to speculatively and periodically check their mailbox contents. In most events, the users are neglectful on checking their mailbox. This at times may lead towards the ignorance of important letters and results in various miseries. Most of the multi story buildings such as apartments, condominiums, office buildings etc limit the users on limited visits to check or collect their letters due to the centralize mailbox location. Users find convenient to be on alert of mails they receive to overwrite the conventional method of checking mailbox. Because of the high confidentiality and official letters are increasing as a corresponding tool globally, the users seek for a better solution which enables them to be on their toes each time a mail is delivered. The state of the art electronics technology is incorporated into these conventional mailboxes as a solution. The programmable logic controller, interface module and the GSM modem can be incorporated by linking the userpsilas mailbox with short messaging system or email facilities and this enables the users to be notified whenever a new mail is delivered. Mails delivered into the users mailbox, the system will automatically generate an alert which is send in the form of a short message system or email that typically details the real time of mail delivery. The system is designed to easy human life by sending short messaging system or email to notify the users about important new mails reaching their mailbox. This is likely to be a fast growing and popular application for short messaging system and email towards the mankind.

Zaki Mustapa; Shakir Saat; Siti Huzaimah Husin; Norafizah Abas

This paper discusses on attitude control of a quadcopter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in real time application. The paper describes the controller design method for the hovering control of UAV automatic vertical take-off system. In order to take-off the quadcopter and stable the altitude, PID controller has been designed. The scope of study is to develop an altitude controller of the vertical take-off as realistic as possible. The quadcopter flight system has nonlinear characteristics. A simulation is conducted to test and analyze the control performance of the quadcopter model. The simulation was conducted by using Mat-lab Simulink. On the other hand, for the real time application, the PCI-1711 data acquisition card is used as an interface for controller design which routes from Simulink to hardware. This study showed the controller designs are implemented and tuned to the real system using Real Time Windows Target approach by Mat-Lab Simulink.

Real time shop floor monitoring system for a better production line management

Siva Kumar Subramaniam; Siti Huzaimah Husin; Yusmarnita Yusop; Abdul Hamid Hamidon

Efficiency and accuracy at the production lines enables a better production and utilization of the available resources. The data available should be interpreted accurately in order to identify the various faults at production level and to immediately rectify them to improve efficiency. An accurate data management and shop floor monitoring system (PMS) is equally important in improving production performance. A number of production floors are utilizing manual methods of data collection for producing reports. Manual data compilation leaves room for both inconsistencies and inaccuracies. When manual data collection is practiced, there is usually a second step of manually compiling the data. This is most commonly accomplished by entering in the information into spreadsheets. When the data is collected without the help of a PMS then the data can be inaccurate. Where there is human intervention on the recording or collection of data, the truthfulness of the collected data is no longer reliable. This paper presents an automated data collection and display system for production lines. Once the data is displayed, it is transferred into computerize spreadsheet in the remote office by authorized personnel for reporting purposes. The system will generate an automated report which stays in place and the management only needs to act base on the results. This cost effective automatic data collection is the alternative to manual data collection. It significantly improves the accuracy of the valuable reports for management.

Quadcopter physical parameter identification and altitude system analysis

Zaki Mustapa; Shakir Saat; Siti Huzaimah Husin; Thoriq Zaid

This paper presents a general quadcopter model. To achieve this, some experimental works have been done. In particular, the reverse engineering approach is applied to find the parameters of the quadcopter system. The first experiment is to obtain the amount of force generated on the propeller via a lift force test. Then the moment of inertia is calculated through a simple test bifilar pendulum concept. Then the suitability of speed is tested to overcome the force of gravity. The motor speed at hovering level is also checked to know the exact motor speed for hovering purpose. The simulation results which are conducted in Matlab/Simulink show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Performance assessment of class-E inverter for capacitive power transfer system

Yusmarnita Yusop; Mohd Shakir Md Saat; Siti Huzaimah Husin; Sing Kiong Nguang; Imran Hindustan

Purpose This paper aims to present a new wireless power transfer technique using capacitive coupling. The capacitive power transfer (CPT) system has been introduced as an attractive alternative to the traditional inductive coupling method. The CPT offers benefits such as simple topology, fewer components, better electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance and robustness to surrounding metallic elements. Design/methodology/approach A class-E inverter together with and without inductor capacitor (LC) matching circuit has been utilised in this work because of its ability to perform the DC-to-AC inversion efficiently with significant reduction in switching losses. The validity of the proposed concept has been verified by conducting a laboratory experiment of the CPT system. Findings The performances for both systems are analysed and evaluated. A 9.7 W output power is generated through a combined interface [printed circuit board (PCB) plate] capacitance of 2.82 nF at an operating frequency of 1 MHz, with 97 per cent efficiency for 0.25 mm coupling gap distance. Originality value An efficient CPT system with class-E LC matching topology is proposed in this paper. With this topology, the zero-voltage switching can be achieved even if the load is different by properly designing the LC matching transformation circuit.
