Model Driven Development of Context-aware Service Oriented Architecture

Samyr Vale; Slimane Hammoudi

Context-aware application development is the most explored area in ubiquitous computing. The majority of ubiquitous applications focus on the development of legacy or ad hoc architectures and artifacts that adapt context information into business logic. Web services have been widely used and provide large flexibility for distributed applications due to their Internet support and low-coupled characteristics. Nevertheless, web services are not sufficient for complex logic implementation despite their relevance as middleware architecture. By the separation of context concerns from business logic in individual and independent software units we promote reuse, adaptability and interoperability in context-aware development. These features are supplied by the model driven development approach proposed in this work. This paper also describes our context-aware service oriented architecture based on EDOC-ECA.

COMODE: A Framework for the Development of Context-Aware Applications in the Context of MDE

Samyr Vale; Slimane Hammoudi

Most researches on ubiquitous computing focus on context capture and adaptation. The lack of a well-defined context model inhibits identification, reasoning and reuse of context and context-aware elements. In this paper we propose the development of model-driven context-aware applications. We present the COMODE framework for modeling context-aware applications in the context of MDE (Model Driven Engineering). By concerns separation (business and contextual ones) in individual models and by transformation techniques context can be provided, modeled and adapted independently of business logic and platform details. We also present in this paper our proposition of a context metamodel and the parameterized transformation to apply context into business models.

Towards context independence in distributed context-aware applications by the model driven approach

Samyr Vale; Slimane Hammoudi

Context-aware applications have been subject of many research works. The majority focus on the development of ad hoc architectures and legacy artifacts to capture and to adapt context information. We provide interoperability, adaptability and reuse to Context-aware applications by the employment of the Model Driven Development approach. We have defined a well detailed context metamodel and we have also developed a Context-aware Service Oriented Architecture (CSOA) using MDA principles and based on EDOC-ECA viewpoints. EDOC-ECA owns distributed characteristics and it is closer to Web Services for mapping specifications. A mapping from CSOA to WSDL metamodel is also presented in this paper.

ODM-based architecture for the development of mobile context-aware applications

Samyr Vale; Slimane Hammoudi

The development of context-aware applications makes face to many challenges. These applications must take into account context definition, representation, interpretation and reuse. Most ubiquitous applications focus on the development of legacy artifacts or ad hoc architectures to capture and to adapt context into business logics. There is no pattern for context-aware development. In this paper, we present an ODM-based Architecture for the Development of Mobile Context-aware Applications. ODM (Ontology Definition Metamodel) is the OMG proposition for the development of ontologies founded on the concepts of the Model Driven Engineering. Our architecture provides the development of context-aware activities and business logic in independent and individual models and on different abstraction levels. We also present in this paper a well-defined context and context-aware metamodels with the current elements in mobile environments.
