In the present work, naturally occurring radionuclides ²³⁸U, ²³²Th and ⁴⁰K were measured in soil samples from the cultivated and undisturbed areas in Rudovci, municipality of Lazarevac, Serbia. There were three profiles, each profile divided into four horizons, giving the twelve soil samples. The specific activity of ²³⁸U, ²³²Th and ⁴⁰K in soil and sediment samples was determined by gamma spectrometry using the HPGe semiconductor detector. Obtained activity concentrations ranged from 28.0 to 44.0 Bq/kg for ²³⁸U, from 59.4 to 71.4 Bq/kg for ²³²Th and from 335.0 to 517.0 Bq/kg for ⁴⁰K. The evaluation of the radiological hazards originated from ²³⁸U, ²³²Th and ⁴⁰K in the samples, the absorbed dose rate (D) and the annual effective dose rate (E), calculated in accordance with the UNSCEAR 2000 report, are presented in this paper.

In the present work, remediation of lead-containing solution using raw and modified kaolinite has been presented. The micro and nanostructure of samples has been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Laser diffraction and scattering (LDS), was analyzed by particle size analyzer based on laser diffraction and particle size distribution (PSD) was done. The degree of metal adsorption was evaluated analyzing the Pb(II) contaminated samples by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (micro- and nanostructure on immobilization efficiency correlCP AES). The results show the impact of immobilization efficiency and ation between micro- and nanostructure. The thermodynamic data (ΔH°, ΔS°, ΔG°) are calculated from the temperature-dependent sorption isotherms. The results suggest sorption process of Pb(II) on kaolinite as spontaneous and endothermic.

Hafnium carbide powder was synthesized by sol-gel polycondensation of hafnium chloride with citric acid. The starting materials were dissolved in water and mixed homogeneously on a hot plate until a precomposite gel was formed. Pyrolysis of the obtained gel resulted in formation of monoclinic hafnia and amorphous carbon, which after subsequent heat treatment transformed into hafnium carbide. Materials were analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy investigations. The results showed that the obtained carbide powder was composed of nearly equiaxed particles of narrow size distribution. The obtained hafnium carbide powder was densified via spark plasma sintering (SPS) at 1950 oC using molybdenun silicide as sintering additive. Microstructure and mechanical properties of the obtained hafnium carbide ceramics were investigated.

The paper presents chemical and structural analysis of geopolymer materials which are obtained by alkali-activated calcined clay (metakaolin) originated from Serbia under strictly defined conditions. Characterization of the metakaolin and geopolymers molecular structure has been done using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The paper presents the possibility of obtaining geopolymer structure and differences in chemical and structural characterization of these materials taking into account the concentration of NaOH as a variable parameter. The results of MALDI analysis of metakaolin and synthesized geopolymer structures using various matrix system: 2,4,6 trihydroxyacetophenone (THAP), α-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic, 2,6 dihydroxyacetophenone and laser desorption/ionization, have shown that THAP matrix is the most appropriate for analysing these aluminosilicate materials.

Thermal Stability of Total Lipids Extracted from Zlatibor Bacon

Snežana Saičić; Vesna Matekalo-Sverak; Snežana S. Nenadović; Ljiljana Kljajević

In this study, non-oxidative and oxidative thermogravimetric analysis was applied as a method for determining the thermal stability of the total lipids extracted from Zlatibor bacon in different phases of production (raw samples, 10th and 30th day of smoking and 30th day of storage). The activation energies of the thermal degradation and oxidation of the total lipids extracted from examined samples were determined. A moderate increase of the activation energy, as well as the other information gained from TG analyses, indicated that there were no significant oxidative changes in Zlatibor bacon lipids during the production and storing.
