Objective. The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility, acceptability, and safety of using moxibustion for treating anorexia and improving quality of life in patients with metastatic cancer. Methods. We conducted a randomized sham-controlled trial of moxibustion. Sixteen patients with metastatic cancer were recruited from Daejeon, South Korea. The patients were randomly placed into a true or a sham moxibustion group and received 10 true or sham moxibustion treatments administered to the abdomen (CV12, CV8, CV4) and legs (ST36) over a 2-week period. Outcome measures included interest in participating in the trial, identification of successful recruitment strategies, the appropriateness of eligibility criteria, and compliance with the treatment plan (ie, attendance at treatment sessions). Clinical outcomes included results of the Functional Assessment of Anorexia/Cachexia Therapy (FAACT), answers on the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer 30-item core quality of life (EORTC QLQ-C30) questionnaires, scores on the visual analogue scale (VAS), and the results from blood tests and a safety evaluation. Results. Moxibustion was an acceptable intervention in patients with metastatic cancer. Compliance with the treatment protocol was high, with 11 patients completing all 10 treatments. No serious adverse events related to moxibustion occurred, but 4 patients in the true moxibustion group reported mild rubefaction, which disappeared in a few hours. Conclusion. This study suggests that moxibustion may be safely used to treat anorexia and improve quality of life in patients with metastatic cancer. However, further research is needed to confirm this result.

ture, pharmaco-acupuncture, Chuna and oral administration of herbal medicines (Gangchuk tang) everyday during about one month of admission treatment. Zero to ten pain numerating rating scale (NRS) of low back pain and sciatica, walking duration without claudication symptom before and after treatment. Results:Atotal of 7 patients’ (average 67 years old, [53 to 78]) medical records were included into the analysis. Segmental degenerative change at lower and upper level of the spine was observed at average 7.64 (4.51) years after the fusion surgery. Average zero to ten NRS of low back pain was improved from 6.57 (SD 2.23) to 2.71 (2.06). Walking duration without pain increased from 118.57m (171.02) to 771.43m (1029.25). There was no adverse event related to the treatment. Conclusion:ConservativeKoreanmedicinal treatmentmay be effective for the symptom management of adjacent segment syndrome after spinal fusion surgery. Future long-term randomized trials with active control intervention, enough sample size and validated outcomeswill be necessary for concrete clinical evidence of this treatment program. Abstract Tumor-reducing effect of SB injection in a non-small cell lung cancer patient: A case report Ji Hye Park, So Jung Park, Hwi Joong Kang, Chong Kwan Cho, Kyun In Han, Hwa Seung Yoo* East West Cancer Center, Dunsan Korean Medicine Hospital of Daejeon University Received 3 December 2014, revised 19 December 2014, accepted 20 December 2014 Objectives : To study the effect of SB injection on tumor size in an advanced non-small cell lung cancer patient. Methods : A patient was clinically diagnosed as advanced non-small cell lung cancer (Stage Ⅲa). Four cycles of intravenous SB injection were conducted. Each cycle lasted 4 days. The content of 7vials SB was injected every day. To compare the tumor size before treatment and after four cycles of SB injection, chest computed tomography (CT) was performed. Results : Follow-up CT images showed that the tumor size was reduced. In admission, size of the tumor 6.7×8.5×9.5 cm on the left lower lobe of lung. After SB injection, size of the tumor 5.6×6.8×8.4 cm by Chest CT. The patients symptoms such as cough, sputum were improving until four cycles of SB injection. Numerical rating scale (NRS) showed improvement of Chest pain from point 3 to point 0.
