Accurate staging of prostatic carcinoma requires determination of the status of the regional draining lymph nodes. Pelvic lymphadenectomy is the definitive examination but has certain morbidity and even mortality. Lymphography is safe but may not be sufficiently accurate. A total of 41 patients with clinically localized disease and abnormal or suspicious lymphograms underwent percutaneous lymph node biopsy. Ten of 11 patients (91 per cent) with abnormal lymphograms and 14 of 30 (47 per cent) with suspicious lymphograms had positive cytology studies. Of the suspicious defects an unopacified void in a nodal chain most frequently was positive. Of 22 potentially curable patients with stages A and B1 disease 12 had metastatic disease.

The Wallstent biliary endoprosthesis has recently been approved for treatment of malignant bile duct obstruction. Although minor changes in position have occurred, migration of these stents has been uncommon. The authors report a case in which migration occurred when stents were simultaneously deployed in the right and left bile ducts. Several mechanisms for this complication are postulated.

Aneurysm of the ductus arteriosus is unusual in the adult. Computed tomography (CT) may be critical in making a preoperative diagnosis. The value of CT in the diagnosis of this entity, as well as its likely pathogenesis, is discussed.

A case of renal angiomyolipoma is reported, in which embolotherapy was followed by liquefaction of virtually the entire tumor. The liquified lesion was drained percutaneously.

A patient with hepatic metastases from a carcinoid tumor was treated by hepatic artery embolization and developed pancreatitis. A subsequent computed tomography scan (CT) demonstrated evidence of pancreatic embolization. The CT findings are reviewed as well as the probable mechanism of the development of pancreatitis.

Transhepatic cholangiography is commonly performed during postoperative evaluation of liver transplant patients. The authors describe a potential pitfall in the interpretation of these studies and illustrate that dilated interrupted lymphatics of the donor liver can mimic a periductal leak of contrast material.

Separation of the left gastric artery from the gastric air shadow is a diagnostic sign of lesser curvature gastric lesions. This finding is especially helpful in patients with large exophytic wall lesions in whom barium examination, CT and ultrasound are not diagnostic. This was demonstrated in two patients with large leiomyomas of the stomach.
