Radiotracer technique has been used to study the removal behavior of Ce (III) ions from aqueous solutions by synthesized and well characterized hydrous ferric oxide (HFO). Adsorptive concentration (10(-4)-10(-8) mol dm(-3)), pH (ca 4.0-10.0) and temperature (303-333 K) were examined for assessing optimal conditions for removal of these ions. The uptake of Ce (III) ions, which fitted well for Freundlich and D-R isotherms, increased with increase in the temperature and no significant desorption took place in the studied temperature range. The presence of some anions/cations affected the uptake of metal ion markedly. Irradiation of hydrous ferric oxide and tungsten oxide by using a 11.1×10(9) Bq (Ra-Be) neutron source having a neutron flux of 3.9×10(6) cm(-2) s(-1) with associated γ-dose rate of 1.72 Gy/h did not influence the extent of adsorption of Ce (III) significantly.

A rapid, specific, and accurate isocratic HPLC method was developed and validated for the assay of quetiapine fumarate in pharmaceutical dosage forms. The assay involved an isocratic-elution of quetiapine fumarate in Grace C18 column using mobile-phase composition of 0.1% ortho phosphoric acid with triethyl amine as modifier buffer and acetonitrile in the ratio of 50 : 50 (v/v).The wavelength of detection is 294 nm. The method showed good linearity in the range of 2.0–50.2 × 10−3 g/Lt. The runtime of the method is 5 mins. The developed method was applied to directly and easily analyse of the pharmaceutical tablet preparations. The percentage recoveries were near 100% for given methods. The method was completely validated and proven to be rugged. The excipients did not interfere in the analysis. The results showed that this method can be used for rapid determination of quetiapine fumarate in pharmaceutical tablet with precision, accuracy, and specificity.

Radiotracer technique has been used to study the removal behavior of Ce(III) and Eu(III) ions from aqueous solutions by local clay. Adsorptive concentration (10-4–10-6 mol dm-3), pH (ca 2.0-9.0) and temperature (303-333 K) were examined for assessing optimal conditions for removal of these ions. The adsorption phenomenon was highly dependent on the amount of the adsorbent concentrations. The uptake of ions, which fitted well for Freundlich isotherm, increased with increase in the temperature and no significant desorption took place in the studied temperature range. The energy of adsorption process for the both cations indicates that the adsorption phenomenon is of chemisorption type. The rate kinetics of the adsorption followed the first order rate kinetics.
