Scoring criteria for the evaluation of micronuclei in oral exfoliated cells

Sonal Grover; Br Ahmed Mujib

South Asian Journal of Cancer ♦ Volume 6 ♦ Issue 2 ♦ April-June 2017 89 Since there is a considerable similarity between the two criteria, using the former criterion is technically not wrong, provided it is fulfilled completely. To conclude, I request the authors to go through their images again and make sure they are compatible with the criterion used. The purpose of this letter is not to highlight an error rather to focus on the appropriate criterion to be used for future studies. Such parameters play a vital role in establishing the validity of the study.

Sonal Grover; Br Ahmed Mujib; B S Anil; Kp Nithin

Lipomas are common benign mesenchymal neoplasms that rarely occur in the oral cavity and correspond to less than 4.4% of all benign oral soft tissue tumors. They are composed of mature adipocytes, usually surrounded by a thin fibrous capsule. A case of intraoral lipoma occurring in retromolar region in a 52 year-old male is reported along with review of the literature. Wide surgical excision was performed and two-year follow-up showed excellent healing without any recurrence.

“Every medication can produce untoward consequences even when used appropriately. Adverse drug reactions can involve any organ and system of the body including the mouth and are frequently mistaken for signs of underlying disease”. An adverse drug reaction (ADR) is defined by the WHO as a drug response that is noxious and unintended and occurs at doses normally used in humans for prophylaxis, diagnosis or therapy of a disease or for the restoration, correction or modification of a physiological function. All noxious and unintended responses to a medicinal product related to any dose should be considered adverse drug reactions. Systemic or local drug therapy has been found to affect teeth in numerous ways. These adverse effects may manifest in numerous ways viz tooth discoloration, physical damage to the tooth structure, alteration in tooth sensitivity.

Current Trends in the Management of Surgical Wounds

Sachin Mittal; Mukesh Kumar; Vidhi Vinayak; Sonal Grover

Proper wound closure is part of successful overall wound care after the assessment of patient and sustained wound, anesthesia, debridement, and irrigation of the wound. Postoperative care enhances excellent outcome or reduces impaired healing situations. Wound healing disturbances mostly result from neglecting one or more of these steps in wound care regardless of the kind of wound closure material used. The principles of wound care have remained remarkably the same over the years. Although most lacerations heal without sequel regardless of management, mismanagement may result in wound infections, prolonged convalescence, unsightly and dysfunctional scars, and, rarely, mortality. This review covers various wound closure materials that are used in dental and maxillofacial clinical practices.
