The interaction of Co(acac)2(3) with LiAlH4 or LiAlH(t-BuO)3 was studied using NMR, UV, IR, ESR spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and volumometry. The basic stages of formation of cobalt catalysts for hydrogenation were suggested. The formation of the nanoparticles that are active in the hydrogenation process is shown to occur at a ratio of reagents 5 ≤ Red/Co ≤ 12. The nanoparticles are stabilized by an excess of LiAlH4 or LiAlH(t-BuO)3, as well as by the products of their catalytic decomposition under the action of cobalt in the reduced state. At the ratio LiAlH4 / Co> 12 to obtain the particles active in catalysis their activation by a proton-donor compound is required.

Three 1-ethylsulfanyl-3-imino-3H-pyrrolizine-2-carboxamides were synthesized by intramolecular cyclization of substituted (2Z)-2-cyano-3-ethylsulfanyl-3-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)prop-2-enamides. The products were assigned syn configuration at the C=N bond and preferential s-cis orientation of the carbamoyl group on the basis of the experimental 13C-13C coupling constants and high-level nonempirical quantum-chemical calculations.

Silver-containing nanocomposites synthesized from the compounds of a humic series have been studied using modern physical–chemical methods (EPR, TEM, IR and XRD, etc.). It is shown that the humic substances with different functional groups and isolated from different sources have also different ability of stabilizing the silver nanoparticles. Long-term stable nanoparticles and silver clusters have been found. A multiplet, observed in the EPR spectra of silver-containing nanocomposites, which are obtained from humic substances isolated from therapeutic muds and shales, is assigned to the formed Agn nanoclusters. Formation of the silver molecular clusters depends on the kind of humic substances and depth of their decomposition.

Silver-containing nanocomposites based on sulfated arabinogalactan have been prepared under mild conditions. The products contain 2–12 nm silver nanoparticles stabilized by the polymer. The composites are readily water-soluble and reveal antimicrobial activity against a wide range of bacteria and fungi.

Primary monitoring of the three-component reaction of 1-methylimidazole with cyanophenylacetylene and benzaldehyde by EPR, UV, NMR, and IR spectroscopy has been carried out. Experimental evidence has been obtained for the formation of zwitterions and carbenes of the imidazole series as intermediates of a new functionalization reaction of the imidazole ring leading to 2-benzoyl-3-(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-3-phenylpropanenitrile.

The configurations and conformations of twelve 5-imino-2,5-dihydrofuran-3-carboxamides and 5-imino-2,5-dihydrofuran-3-amines were determined by analysis of the experimental 13C-13C coupling constants and those calculated by nonempirical methods, as well as by quantum-chemical calculations of the total energies and optimization of geometric parameters of preferential conformations at the MP2/6-311G** level. All the examined compounds were found to be formed and to exist in solution as individual Z isomers with orthogonal orientation of the amino and dialkylamino groups and s-trans orientation of the carbamoyl group in the ring with restricted internal rotation about the C(O)-N bond.

Novel water-soluble chiroplasmonic nanobiocomposites with directly varied gold content were synthesized by a one-step redox method in water using a biocompatible polysaccharide κ-carrageenan (industrial product from algae) as both reducing and stabilizing matrix. The influence of the reactants ratio, temperature, and pH on the reaction was studied and the optimal reaction parameters were found. The structure and the properties of composite nanomaterials were examined in solid state and aqueous solutions by using complementary physical-chemical methods X-ray diffraction analysis, transmission electron microscopy, spectroscopy of electron paramagnetic resonance, atomic absorption and optical spectroscopy, polarimetry including optical rotatory dispersion with registration of interphase-crossbred Cotton effect of a chiral polysaccharide matrix on plasmonic chromophore of gold nanoparticles, dynamic and static light scattering. The new perspective multi-purpose nanocomposites demonstrate a complex of chiroplasmonic and magnetic properties, imparted by both nanoparticles and radicals enriched chiral polysaccharide matrix.

Oligo(N-vinyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydroindole-co-butyl vinyl ethers) have been synthesized through free-radical cooligomerization with a yield of 84%. The copolymers are readily soluble in organic solvents (benzene, 1,4-dioxane, chloroform, and tetrahydrofuran), stable up to 380–400°C, and paramagnetic. (The concentration of paramagnetic centers is 1014 spin/g.) In addition, the copolymers exhibit the properties of organic semiconductors. (After being doped with iodine, σ = 1.1 × 10−7 S/cm.) The analysis of the 1H and 13C NMR spectra has shown that the oligomerization reaction is complicated by intramolecular cyclization involving carbon atoms located at the 2-position of pyrrole rings.
