Fuzzy logic based call admission control in UMTS system

Petr Kejík; Stanislav Hanus

Capacity of CDMA system depends on an interference level in the system. There are therefore RRM (Radio Resources Management) functions, which are responsible for supplying optimum coverage, ensuring efficient use of physical resources and providing the maximum planned capacity. A call admission control algorithm based on load factor evaluation and a fuzzy logic based call admission control algorithm are presented and mutually compared in this contribution.

CCK and Barker Coding Implementation in IEEE 802.11b Standard

Jan Mikulka; Stanislav Hanus

This paper deals with a Matlab-simulink simulation of IEEE 802.11b physical Layer specification. There was made a Matlab Simulink program that simulates 4 data rates (1, 2, 5.5, 11 Mbps) specified in the 802.1 lb standard. Program includes Barker coding implementation for lower data rates (1,2 Mbps) and CCK (complementary code keying) for higher data rates providing 5.5 and 11 Mbps. All data rates are using DSSS (direct sequence spread spectrum). Basic description of the program and results in graphical and numerical form are introduced as a BER to Eb/NO dependence.

Radio Network Dimensioning in UMTS Network Planning Process

Z. RuzIcka; Stanislav Hanus

This article deals with network dimensioning procedure in UMTS network planning process. There are mentioned important parameters in radio link budget. Fundamental task in network dimensioning process is to estimate total traffic in the cell. There are described methods for cell load computing in the both directions. The uplink and the downlink are considered separately. The procedure of soft capacity estimation using Erlang-B formula is also described in this article

Simulator for radio resources management functions in CDMA systems

Petr Kejík; Stanislav Hanus

Abstract Mobile network technologies have been experiencing great progress. Simulations and analysis of these systems are challenging tasks. Different network simulation and modelling tools have already been developed. However, these simulation and modelling tools are commercial, they are focused on the physical layer simulations or they are simply unavailable. Hence, the own simulation program was created in Matlab. This paper gives a brief review of several simulation tools and presents its own simulation program. This program enables simulation of radio resources management functions for Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems. Finally, simulation results obtained by using the proposed simulator are also presented.

Complementary Code Keying Implementation in the Wireless Networking

Jan Mikulka; Stanislav Hanus

This paper deals with a Matlab-simulink simulation of IEEE 802.11 b Physical Layer specification. There was made a Matlab Simulink program that simulates 4 data rates (1, 2, 5.5, 11 Mbps) specified in the 802.11 b standard. Program includes Barker coding implementation for lower data rates (1,2 Mbps) and CCK (complementary code keying) for higher data rates providing 55 and 11 Mbps. All data rates are using DSSS (direct sequence spread spectrum). Basic description of the program and results in graphical and numerical form are introduced as a BER to Eb/N0 dependence.

Relation between character of real video sequences and 3D-DCT compression

Tomas Fryza; Stanislav Hanus

This paper is about video compression based on the 3D-DCT. This algorithm is similar used in the specification MPEG (Motion Picture Experts Group). In spite of width application of the standard MPEG, better results in compression can be obtained with method of the 3D-DCT. In the next text we firstly describe the architecture of encoder and decoder including the definitions of mathematical operations like the forward and inverse three-dimensional discrete cosine transform 3D-FDCT and 3D-IDCT, quantisation and thresholding and finally the calculation of the NRMSE (normalized root mean square error). The calculation of the 3D-DCT with two real video sequences is also realized.

Bluetooth EDR Physical Layer modeling

Jan Mikulka; Stanislav Hanus

This paper deals with the Bluetooth Physical Layer simulation in Mathworks Matlab. Models for basic rate and enhanced data rate mode were made. Simulations for 1, 2 and 3 Mbit/s data rates are presented. All of the Physical Layer processing including scrambling, forward error correction and packetization is simulated. Baseband simulations of transmission over AWGN channel are introduced and graphical results are compared with the theory. All Bluetooth simulations are part of the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi coexistence research.

Indoor channel modeling based on experience with outdoor urban measurement — Multislope modeling

Lukas Klozar; Jan Prokopec; Stanislav Hanus; Martin Slanina; Zbynek Fedra

This paper discusses indoor channel modeling for mobile communications. We apply multislope log-distance channel model and simulate indoor path loss distribution. The standard deviation value of normal and log-normal distribution describes various fading effects affecting the signal propagation. We defined the areal signal path loss distribution in a restricted indoor environment. The PSO-based process with the MSE estimation determinates the multi break point model for the tested building. Results of our work are the optimized MSE fitted multislope models.

Fuzzy logic based call admission control with user movement prediction for UMTS system

Petr Kejík; Stanislav Hanus

Universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) is one of the 3rd generation (3G) cell phone technologies. The capacity of UMTS is interference limited. Radio resources management (RRM) functions are therefore used. They are responsible for supplying optimum coverage, ensuring efficient use of physical resources, and providing the maximum planned capacity. This paper deals with admission control techniques for UMTS system. A UMTS system model and several versions of admission control algorithms are presented in this paper. These algorithms are based on fuzzy logic and they use simple user movement prediction methods. The algorithms are mutually compared via simulations.

The application of fuzzy logic for admission control in UMTS system

Petr Kejík; Stanislav Hanus

Universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) is one of the 3rd generation (3G) cell phone technologies. The capacity of UMTS is interference limited. Radio resources management (RRM) functions are therefore used there. An admission control algorithm is quite important part of RRM as it is responsible for admission and rejection of users into (out off) the system. This article briefly describes fuzzy logic based admission controller. The fuzzy logic based controller and its modified versions are simulated and compared with load factor based admission control algorithm.
