Strict: Selecting the “RIght” architeCTure

Modern applications impose an increasing demand for flexible and distributed solutions. This, and the challenge of Open Systems, assigns more and more importance to the architectural decisions during systems design. However, the capabilities of conventional types of distributed systems seem to be restricted to the lower levels of interprocess cooperation. So, the integration of collaborative software systems calls for intelligent distributed architectures. This paper presents the experimental advisory system STRICT (Selecting The RIght architeCTure). STRICT serves as an investigation and development environment and provides smart facilities to experiment with (DAI-related) architectural knowledge.

Towards federative reference coordination architectures: the capability knowledge modelling problem

The field of cooperative intelligent systems is one of the most challenging areas of research today. However, cooperation requires to know about ones own capability, and the capabilities and behavior of other collaborators as well. The paper picks up the problems of this issue, and discusses relationships between them. A reference coordination architecture is used to work towards a capability knowledge modeling framework.<<ETX>>

Eine fur die zukunftige Informationsverarbeitung wichtige Basistechnologie ist die Verteilte Kunstliche Intelligenz. Dort wird derzeit intensiv daran gearbeitet, intelligente Systeme kooperationsfahig zu machen. Grundsatzlich voneinander unabhangige Systeme sollen dabei flexibel (und transparent fur den Benutzer) zusammenarbeiten konnen. Das ist vor allem dann von Interesse, wenn (wie zum Beispiel im Bankenbereich) bereits verschiedene, in verwandten Domanen eingesetzte Expertensysteme verfugbar sind. Werden diese kooperationsfahig gemacht, dann steigt (wegen tendenziell besserer und vollstandigerer Ergebnisse) zunachst der Nutzen fur den lokalen Anwender. Weit wichtiger ist jedoch, das kooperationsfahige Systeme ihr Wissen grundsatzlich auch allen anderen Mitarbeitern eines Unternehmens zur Verfugung stellen konnen. Das eroffnet interessante Moglichkeiten, (ublicherweise nur lokal genutzte) teure wissensbasierte Systeme schneller zu amortisieren, und auf den Wissenstransfer innerhalb des Unternehmens zu beschleunigen.
