The Variability of Arsenic and Other Risk Element Uptake by Individual Plant Species Growing on Contaminated Soil

Lucie Králová; Jiřina Száková; Štěpán Kubík; Pavel Tlustoš; J. Balík

Surrounding Kutná Hora (Czech Republic) are areas characterized by former silver mining activity. Therefore, a high level of risk elements was reported in soil close to the historical mines. The Aqua Regia extractable (i.e. “pseudo-total”) element values in soils exceeded the Czech threshold values representing 30 mg kg−1 As, 1.0 mg kg−1 Cd, 200 mg kg−1 Cr, 80 mg kg−1 Ni, 140 mg kg−1 Pb and 200 mg kg−1 Zn, by up to 15-fold for zinc, 30-fold for cadmium, and even 80-fold for arsenic. Mobile portions of elements determined in 0.11 mol L−1 CH3COOH solution did not exceed 1% of the “pseudo-total” element content for As, Cr, and Pb. Diversity of vegetation cover growing at the contaminated soil close to the former mine, as well as element uptake by aboveground biomass of individual plant species, was investigated. Plant species growing in these soils represented an ordinary ruderal plant community of 29 species without occurence of metallophytes. Moreover, the element concentrations in above-ground biomass of plants were low. Transferfactors, given as a ratio of element content in plant and its “pseudo-total” content in soil, varied from 0.0003 to 0.003 for As, from 0.001 to 0.174 for Cd, and from 0.016 to 0.169 for Zn. Evidently, the analyzed plant species are characterized by low ability to take up the risk elements and translocate them to above-ground biomass and the potential risk for animals consuming this biomass is negligible.

New records of Sarcophagidae from Turkey (Diptera)

Yury Verves; Miroslav Barták; Štěpán Kubík; Hasan Sungur Civelek

Abstract Faunistic records of 68 flesh fly species are presented, and altogether, 22 species are recorded from Turkey for the first time. A further 46 species were recorded for the first time in at least one Turkish province. This paper presents the first locality data for four additional species, which were previously mentioned only generically in catalogues. One new synonym has been established, Servaisia (s. str.) rybaltschenkoi (Verves, 1977) = Blaesoxipha ataturkia Lehrer, 2008, syn. n. Two new combinations are proposed: Helicophagella (Parabellieria) dreyfusi (Lehrer, 1994), comb. n. and Helicophagella (s. str.) bellae (Lehrer, 2000), comb. n.

New species of Rhamphomyia (Diptera: Empididae) from Turkey with a key to species of the Middle East and adjacent territories

Miroslav Barták; Štěpán Kubík; Hasan Sungur Civelek; Oktay Dursun

Rhamphomyia (s. str.) academica sp. nov. (Turkey) and R. (s. str.) soukupi sp. nov. (Turkey) are described and illustrated. Rhamphomyia (Lundstroemiella) cimrmani Barták, 2006, is re-described and the female is newly described. The first records of Rhamphomyia (s. str.) argentata von Röder, 1887 and R. (Pararhamphomyia) intersita Collin, 1960 are reported from Turkey. A key to species of Rhamphomyia from the Middle East is presented.

Checklist of flesh flies of Turkey (Diptera, Sarcophagidae)

Yury Verves; Miroslav Barták; Štěpán Kubík

Abstract A checklist of 153 flesh fly species (Diptera, Sarcophagidae) recorded to date from Turkey is presented. Updating the list was necessary due to the numerous recent records. Records are listed according to provinces.

Fanniidae (Diptera): new synonym, new records and an updated key to males of European species of Fannia

Miroslav Barták; Jiří Preisler; Štěpán Kubík; Hana Šuláková; Vladislav Sloup

Abstract Based on revision of large recent collections of the authors, the following five species are first recorded from the Czech Republic: Fannia collini d’Assis-Fonseca, 1966 (simultaneously first record in Central Europe), Fannia lugubrina (Zetterstedt, 1838), Fannia melania (Dufour, 1839), Fannia slovaca Gregor & Rozkošný, 2005, and Fannia brinae Albuquerque, 1951 (simultaneously first record from low altitudes). Another species, Fannia alpina Pont, 1970, is first recorded from Slovak Republic, and Fannia cothurnata (Loew, 1873) is first recorded from Kazakhstan. An updated key to males of European species of Fannia is presented. A list of Czech and Slovak Fanniidae is appended. One new synonym is established: Fannia lucida Chillcott, 1961 is considered junior synonym of Fannia norvegica Ringdahl, 1934. Altogether two species are first recorded from Bohemia [Fannia cothurnata (Loew, 1873) and Fannia vespertilionis Ringdahl, 1934] and three for Moravia [Fannia alpina Pont, 1970, Fannia conspecta Rudzinski, 2003, and Fannia limbata (Tiensuu, 1938) – this species considered in Central Europe very rare was found in numbers near waters both running and standing in early spring under unusually warm temperature conditions].

Two New East Palaearctic Rhamphomyia (Pararhamphomyia) (Diptera: Empididae)

Miroslav Barták; Štěpán Kubík

ABSTRACT: Rhamphomyia (Pararhamphomyia) pachymeriae sp. n. (Russia: Primorskiy Province, Amur Province) and R. (P.) pilositibia sp. n. (Russia: Amur Province) are described and illustrated. A key to East Palaearctic groups of Pararhamphomyia with at least biserial dorsocentrals, black legs and entirely black setose body is provided.

Rhamphomyia (Diptera: Empididae) From Israel

Miroslav Barták; Štěpán Kubík

ABSTRACT Species of the genus Rhamphomyia (Diptera: Empididae) from Israel are reviewed. Rhamphomyia (s. str.) furmani sp. n. (Israel) and Rhamphomyia (s. str.) hermonensis sp. n. (Israel) are described and illustrated. Rhamphomyia (Holoclera) tenuipes Becker, 1907; Rhamphomyia (Holoclera) biserialis Collin, 1960; and Rhamphomyia (Pararhamphomyia) intersita Collin, 1960 are redescribed. Rhamphomyia (s. str.) sulcatella Collin, 1926 and Rhamphomyia (s. str.) karamanensis Barták, Ciftci et Hasbenli, 2007 are reported from Israel for the first time.

Miroslav Barták; Štěpán Kubík

Abstract Rhamphomyia (Pararhamphomyia) thaiciliata, sp. nov. from Thailand is described and illustrated. This is the southernmost species of the ciliatopoda group. A key to the species of R. (P.) ciliatopoda group is provided.
