SummaryThe X-ray crystal structure of the compound Na3(NH4)12[Mo57Fe6(NO)6O174(OH)3(H2O)24]·76H2O (3) [P63/mmc;a=2380.6(5),c=2763.4(7),Z=2], the giant cluster anion of which has the shape of a doughnut, shows remarkable details: The cluster [{Fe(H2O)2}6{Mo(μ-H2O)2(μ-OH)Mo}3{ Mo15(MoNO)23+O58(H2O)2}3]15− can be described as being composed of three transferable {Mo17} ligands bridged by cationic centers and contains a novel nanodimensional central cavity.

kg were reported, respectively [7]. However, these values should be considered with utmost care, since no clear differentiation between water-soluble and -insoluble bromine has been made. The present study reveals that aquatic sediments act both as sinks and sources for bromine. They therefore play an important role in the cycling of this element in the biogeosphere, which, after its (partial) release from the organic matter of the sediments into the interstitial water, will finally reach the river or lake by diffusion and/or compaction pressure.

The synthesis and unusual structure of the novel heteropolyoxometalate (NMe4)4[As4Mo6V7O39(SO4)]·H2O 1, which can be utilized as a model compound for the study and comparison of the different host–guest properties or carcerand functions of poly-vanadates and -molybdates, is reported.

Abstract The compound Na7[Na⊂{(MoV2O4)3(μ2-OH)3H(PhPO3)4}2] · 2N2H4 · 26 H2O (formulation with respect to the aggregate in the crystal) has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis (which alone does not allow the determination of the formula), UV/Vis/NIR/IR, 31P{1H}, 1H and 23Na NMR spectroscopy as well as magnetic susceptibility measurements. The compound is formed under similar conditions as (NH2Me2)6[H2⊂(MoV2O4)6O4(μ2-C)H)12(MoVIO3)4].Correspondingly, both cluster frame works are built up by the same {(MoV2O4)3(μ2-OH)3}3+ units.
