C-Acetylation of Ketones

Stuart Nicholas Huckin; Larry Weiler

The action of 2 equiv. of methyllithium on the monoanion of simple β-keto esters gives the β-diketone in good yield. This represents a facile and new method to achieve the C-acylation of a ketone.
