Growth of large size urea crystals

Huang Bingrong; Su Genbo; He Youping

Abstract High optical quality urea crystals can be grown from the solution by cooling by adopting 175 mm long seed and a limitation of the growth along the Z direction. Large crystals up to a size of 46×50×171 mm have been grown stably by this technology.

Journal of Crystal Growth | 1992

Growth of large single crystals of meta-nitroaniline

Gong-Fan Huang; J.T. Lin; Jiang Rihong; Su Genbo

Abstract Large single crystals of metal-nitroaniline (m-NA) have been grown from solution by the lowering-temperature method. A small seed was used in the solution and a large single crystal with high optical quality, measuring 30×40×50 mm ( a × b × c ) was g The growth conditions and results of this crystal are described.

Journal of Crystal Growth | 1991

Growth of N-(4-nitrophenyl)-(L)-prolinol (NPP) crystal in organic solvents and its characterization

He Youping; Su Genbo; Pan Feng; Wu Bochang; Jang Rihong

Abstract NPP crystals were grown using solution growth techniques and the grown crystals were characterized. The mechanism of growth was also discussed.

Growth and characteristics of 5-nitrouracil crystal

He Youping; Su Genbo; Wu Bochang; Jang Rihong

Abstract High optical quality 5-nitrouracil crystals can be grown by cooling an aqueous solution to below ≈60°C, in which a 37 mm long seed is immersed and growth is limited only along the Z direction. The largest crystal grown was 17×6×37 mm 3 .

Journal of Crystal Growth | 1992

Growth and characterization of methyl p-hydroxybenzoate (p-MHB)

Li Zhengdong; Su Genbo; Wu Baichang

Abstract Bulk crystals of p-MHB 30x40x55 mm3 in size have been successfully grown using solution growth technique. The growth habits and defects were observed and discussed. Some optical characteristics were measured and reported.

New organic nonlinear optical crystals of indole-3-aldehyde

He Youping; Su Genbo; Shi Jianqiu; Yiu Guiming; Jang Rihong

Abstract Indole-3-aldehyde (IA) with powder second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency 38 times as large as that of KDP and cutoff wavelength of 340 nm is reported. The method of solvent evaporation was used to grow IA crystal. High quality single crystals with dimension of 18x8x35 mm 3 were obtained. IA crystal belongs to the orthorhombic system space group Pca2 1 , and the unit cell parameters are: a = 14.154(3) A, b = 5.836(2) A, and c = 8.724(4) A.

Growth of large crystals of pentaerythritol and trishydroxymethylaminomethone

Su Genbo; Li Zhengdong; Pan Rfen; Wu Dexiang; Yang Tongqin

Abstract Large clear crystals of pentaerythritol and trishydroxymethylaminomethone with dimensions of 91×102×150 mm3 and 117×68×69 mm3, respectively, have been grown by cooling a water solution. The habit and condition of growth were observed and the above measurements were compared with their properties.

Journal of Crystal Growth | 1991

Growth of urea crystals with very large cross-sectional area

Huang Bingrong; Su Genbo; Pan Feng

Abstract If the seeds are selected, prepared carefully, and the supersaturation controlled properly, then urea crystals could be grown for about four months, to give very large cross-sectional areas of crystal.

Journal of Crystal Growth | 1994

Growth and characterization of a new organic nonlinear optical crystal: 1-(3-thienyl)-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-propene-1-one

He Youping; Su Genbo; Yiu Guiming; Huang Xiangjin; Jang Rihong

Abstract A new organic nonlinear optical crystal 1-(3-thienyl)-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-propene-1-one (CTC) with powder second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency 3 times as large as that of KTP and cutoff wavelength of 410 nm is reported. Large single crystals (6×11×20 mm 3 ) were grown from acetone by slow cooling. The crystal structure of CTC is determined.

Growth of beryllium sulfate tetrahydrate (BST) crystal in hydrate solution

He Youping; Su Genbo; Pan Feng; Jang Rihong

Abstract The method of solvent evaporation was used to grow BST crystals, and the habits of growth were observed and discussed. The second-harmonic generation (SHG) effects were determined.
