Abstract The paper focuses on the Web presence and visibility of websites of Asian countries. It tries to highlight the Web presence using some webometric indicators like Internet access, webpages, number of Internet users, and link counts. The study analyzes the web presence using popular search engines like Altavista, Google, Yahoo and MSN. An attempt has also been made to find out the Web Impact Factor (WIF) for selected Asian countries. The result shows that China (43.7%), Japan (16.2%) and India (10.4%) occupy highest web presence amongst Asian countries based on the total number of effective Internet users. China being the second highest number of Internet users having 11.8% after USA (19.7%) followed by India with 4.9% of world Internet Users and Japan is having the highest number of webpages followed by China and South Korea.

The paper investigates open access (OA) self archiving policies of different Open Access Repositories (OARs) of COAPI (Coalition of Open Access Policy Institutions) founder members as reported in June 2011 (i.e. a total of 22 members against a total of 46 COPAI members as reported by Open Biomed (http://openbiomed.info/2011/08/coapi-cats/). The paper consulted three databases (OpenDOAR, ROAR and ROARMAP) in order to evaluate twenty-two (22) COAPI-members OARs self archiving policy documentations and highlights of some progress on issues so far. After analyzing policy documentations, key findings have been highlighted and common practices have been suggested in line with global recommendations and best practice guidelines at national and international levels for strengthening national research systems. The paper has implications for administrators, funding agencies, policy makers and professional librarians in devising institute specific self archiving policies for their own organization.

Statistical analysis of the frequency of application of a pair of role operators within the input strings, where the terms are set according to the context-dependent order, would not only help us to determine the concept co-occurrences within the subject literature, but also to study the amount of interdependency among the role operators. This article analyzes the associations among different role operators quantitatively by taking the input strings from 200 abstracts each related to the subject fields of taxation, genetic psychology, and Shakespearian drama and subjecting them to χ2—test. The concepts specifying key system occurred significantly with those of action in both taxation and genetic psychology; whereas in the former the action concepts remained independent of agent concepts, they showed significant associations in the latter. The subject literature of genetic psychology contained associations of parts/properties with concepts specifying key systems, actions, and agents more than that of taxation. Only action and agent concepts of taxation were associated with its parts/properties. The concepts specifying dates as difference showed a good alliance with action concepts in Shakespearian drama. The paper also discusses significant associations by other differencing operators and connectives. Though no generalizations have been made in this paper, it hopes to throw some light on the nature of concepts within the subject literature as well as on the relationships of different role operators for their effective and efficient application in the future.
