近い将来, 海洋投棄が禁止されようとしている焼酎製造過程で発生する焼酎蒸留粕を陸上で有効利用するために, 焼酎蒸留粕と古紙を原料とした植物栽培用ポット (エコポット) を量産化する装置を開発した.本装置の最適稼働条件は, 原料の希釈倍率2倍, 成形時間3秒, 脱水時間50秒であった. また, エコポットを用いて小松菜の生育試験を実施し, ポットの農業用資材としての効果を検討した. その結果, エコポット中の窒素成分の70%程度は約1ヶ月間の栽培期間中にエコポットから溶出するが, 微生物による取り込みにより有機化が進行するため, エコポットは葉菜類 (小松菜等) のような短期作物よりも果菜類 (トマト等) のような長期作物に対して肥料効果が期待できる.
