Advanced Routing Algorithms and Load Balancing on MPLS

Tran Cong Hung; Nguyen Hoang Thanh; Nguyen Duc Thang; Hae Won Jung; Tae Ii Kim; Sung Hei Kim; Woo Jin Yang

In this paper, we will survey and classify researching advanced routing algorithms that take advantages of MPLS (multiprotocol label switch) network to extent routing algorithms, supporting QoS (quality of service) services and traffic engineering and load balancing. We also consider some recent projects that are researching and working with advanced routing algorithms. This paper include 6 parts. Part 1 presents introduction. Part 2 presents QoS based routing, Classification of QoS routing. Part 3 presents traffic based routing based on information of current network such as: minimum interference routing algorithm (MIRA), dynamic online routing algorithm (DORA) and based on profile information such as: profile based routing (PBR). Part 4 presents employing advanced routing algorithms part 5 presents load balancing. And last, simulation with the combination of essential packages, we build simulation environments for MPLS based on ns2, setup some advanced routing algorithms, and evaluate them with old routing protocols.

Use case and service framework for WPT (Wireless power transfer)

Juyoung Park; Sung Hei Kim; Okjo Jeong

Wireless power transfer (WPT) is one of the promising technology of the near future with devices transferring electric energy from one device to another in wireless manner. Currently, many researchers and organizations focus on the wireless power transfer technologies itself concentrating on device to device(s) interaction. However, a standardized infrastructure with interaction of various applications and services is needed to deploy the wireless power transfer technology. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a WPT based service framework in order realize various types of commercial services such as electric car charging system on public highway and outdoor charging system for wearable/mobile devices. This paper describes some of the use cases that should be considered and define a service framework consisting of various players in providing service control and charging policy for WPT based application and services.

PIM Multicast Spam Countering Method Using Blacklist in Rendezvous Point

Sung Hei Kim; So Young Park; Shin Gak Kang

Spam has been an annoying problem especially to Internet e-mail system nowadays. Many solutions have been deployed, but none have actually solved this problem. Various new applications based on the Internet are emerging very fast, and many of those applications are quickly being a good target for spammers. IP multicast provides flexibility in communication pattern with capability of sending same messages to multiple users. It can be used in various services like IPTV or conference communication. Since, multiple users can receive same message simultaneously, IP multicast is a great target for IP spammers. This paper propose spam countering method in IP multicast environment using PIM multicast protocol. If the multicast service receiver suspects that the receiving multicast traffic is a spam, it would report to the PIM rendezvous point. The PIM rendezvous point will manage multicast flow according to the spam reports received from the receivers. This paper made detailed description of the spam countering method that can be used to prevent spam in PIM-based IP multicast services.

ARQ scheme of multimedia streaming for hybrid delivery over heterogeneous network

Sung Hei Kim; Chang Kyu Lee; Jae Hyoung Lee; Shin Gak Kang

Nowadays, many mobile devices have multiple networking modules to receive data from various networks such as WI-FI, 3G, Wimax, DVB-H, etc. The mobile devices are used to receive multimedia streams through various networking interfaces. However, mobile characteristics can cause loss of packets and needs an effective method to recover the loss to provide high-quality multimedia streaming service. ARQ (Automatic Repeat Query) can be used to re-receive the loss packets that are being delivered. The heterogeneous networks can be used to effectively deliver multimedia stream and also provides ARQ to recover the loss packets. The retransmitted data can be delivered over bi-directional network such as Internet. This paper proposes a hybrid delivery for heterogeneous network environment and efficient ARQ that can be considered for multimedia streaming.

Study on design and implementation of audience measurement functionalities for digital signage service using Kinect camera

Wook Hyun; Mi Young Huh; Sung Hei Kim; Shin Gak Kang

Digital signage service is capable of providing advertisement contents and information to users using electronic displays with network capabilities. Compared to Traditional DID (Digital Information Device) that just provides contents one-way, digital signage service can provide more advanced functionalities such as user interaction and audience measurements. By measuring audience behaviour, it is possible to provide appropriate contents to user and deduce advertisement effects. In this paper, we present implementations of audience measurement using Kinect camera since Kinect camera can track a human objects, distance calculation and gesture recognitions.

Service framework for public wireless electric charging

Sung Hei Kim; Han-Seung Koo; Juyoung Park

Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is a technology of transferring electricity from the electric power source to other devices without the need of wired intermediate media such as cable and plugs. There are many standards developed to provide wireless power charging. With these technologies, it would be very effective if the public can provide wireless charging service to the mobile devices which can ease the burden in carrying extra batteries and electric adaptors. For this, public needs to provide service framework which consists of charging service control and management, reliable authentication/authorization, fare-charging policy, etc. This paper proposes service framework and service flow to be considered for proving wireless power transfer in the public space.

Robust multicast membership management in the managed overlay multicast service

Sung Hei Kim; Changkyu Lee; Shin-Gak Kang

Currently new sophisticated services such as IPTV, conference communications, network gaming, etc. need group communication capability in the network. However, current Internet does not provide full deployment of multicast capability. Therefore, alternative solutions are needed to provide efficient group communications. One such solution is an overlay multicast mechanisms. Membership management is one of the key features of in management of group communications service. The tricky problem of membership management is due to membership churn. This paper proposes robust membership management function for the managed overlay multicast network. The proposed functions are multicast tree and membership management, periodic connection management, detection of abnormal termination, and detection of connection failure. Robust multicast service can be provided with the use of proposed management function.
