Integration of a cryptographic file system and access control

The importance of kernel-level security mechanisms such as a file system and access control has been increasingly emphasized as weaknesses in user-level applications. However, when using only access control, including role-based access control (RBAC), a system is vulnerable to a low-level or physical attack. In addition, when using only a cryptographic file system, a system also has a weakness that it is unable to protect itself. To overcome these vulnerabilities, we integrated a cryptographic file system into the access control, and developed a prototype.

PC/MPI: Design and Implementation of a Portable MPI Checkpointer

Most MPI checkpointers are substantially or even totally dependent on a specific MPI implementation or platform, so they may not be portable. In this paper we present design and implementation issues as well as solutions to enhance portability of an MPI checkpointer. We actually developed PC/MPI (Portable Checkpointer for MPI) to which the presented solutions are applied, and verified that it is applicable to various MPI implementations and platforms.

Data Curation for LTER: The Case of K-ecohub

In LTER, curation activities play very essential role for data discovery and retrieval, quality control, and reuse over time. The K-ecohub system is a pilot repository to preserve long-term Korean national ecological data. The repository has been designed so as to manage and share data in an efficient manner. The paper presents the workflowbased data curation process in K-ecohub, which promotes collaboration and facilitates contribution from experts in the LTER field and also provides a way to automate and customize curation activities depending on the data types.
