Various histological variants of neurofibroma have been described. The objective of this paper is to discuss the unusual histological findings seen in two cases of neurofibromas associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 Both cases presented with multiple subcutaneous nodules. Surgical excision of the largest nodule was done in both the cases. Histological examination of case no.1 revealed a benign tumor of the peripheral nerve sheath, of neurofibroma type with presence of mucus producing glands. The epithelial component was benign in this case. The second case showed presence of rosettes in between areas of typical neurofibroma.

Surface epithelial tumors of the ovary comprise over fourth of the ovarian neoplasms. Serous adenofibromas are lesser known variants of serous surface epithelial tumors. Though these tumors have a benign fate, yet they can be misinterpreted clinically and radiologically due to their borderline or malignant gross morphological as well as clinical presentation. The cell of origin of surface epithelial tumors of the ovary is histological debated; however, it is now ascertained to have origins from the ovarian cortical and surface lining. Adenofibromas are known to progress in an indolent manner with metachronous behavior for years. The present case is of an ovarian serous adenofibroma in a young female masquerading as peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Ovarian tumors are broadly classified into surface epithelial, germ cell, sex cord, and stromal tumors and other rarer special categories under the WHO scheme. The Brenner tumors of the surface epithelial group pose a diagnostic challenge in special context of its histogenesis. We present a case of 46-year-old female with an ovarian mass and ascitis. The surgico-pathological evaluation of gross and microscopic features suggested a malignant Brenner tumor. Transitional cell carcinoma (non-Brenner) was kept as a diagnostic differential and a challenging pitfall.
