Abstract Two new heterobimetallic complexes of the composition [(VO2)2(μ3-slsch){Na2(μ-H2O)2(H2O)2}]n (1) and [(VO2)2(μ3-npsch){Na2(μ-H2O)2(H2O)2}(DMF)]n (2) were obtained by reaction of the ligand and vanadium pentoxide in a 1:1 molar ratio in methanol in the presence of Na2CO3 (2 equivalents). The complexes obtained were characterized using various spectroscopic studies. The structures of both the complexes were established by single crystal X-ray crystallographic study. We have also explored the catalytic behavior of the complexes in oxidative bromination of phenol red, which is the bio-inspired reaction catalyzed by an enzyme haloperoxidase.

Dioxido-vanadium(V) complex has been synthesized in good yield, the complex was characterized by IR, UV–visible and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Single crystal X-ray crystallography techniques were used to assign the structure of the complex. Complex crystallized with monoclinic P21/c space group with cell parameters a (Å) = 39.516(5), b (Å) = 6.2571(11), c (Å) = 17.424(2), α (°) = 90, β (°) = 102.668(12) and γ (°) = 90. The hydrazone ligand is coordinate to metal ion in tridentate fashion through –ONO– donor atoms forming a distorted square pyramidal geometry around the metal ion.

Abstract A copper(II)–nickel(II)-based catalyst system has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, mass spectra, magnetic moment, EPR, UV-Vis, IR spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. The structure of the complex was established by X-ray crystallography. The complex is an efficient catalyst, which oxidizes primary and secondary alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones at 70 °C employing 15% H2O2 as the oxidant in the absence of a base and co-catalyst.
