There have been various suggestions for improving existing power line networks with the purpose of increasing their throughput capacity as well as the reliability of power supply. This is an important problem that must be considered, especially if the transmission grid requires the prospective expansion of new electrical connections. Therefore, the use of High Temperature Low Sag conductors replacing the traditional type conductors can be one of the possible solutions for the posed problem. The paper deals with a comparative analysis of the technical (mechanical and heating limitations) and economic efficiency of using conductors of different types, which is based on two actual overhead line models; both examples are existing lines of the Latvian power network. The results of the evaluation, which are based on the particular calculation conditions, are presented in this paper.

This paper is dedicated to the task of planning energy supply systems in the market environment. The possibilities of forming coalitions between companies are considered. In this case, for justifying the decisions and distributing the gains a cooperative game theory is used. Methods of forming a coalition and distributing additional gains are described in this paper. The example with the proposed strategy is based on a real project of 330 kV and 110kV high voltage lines between two substations and show the rationality and efficiency of using the considered approach.

The paper presents a comparison of two methodologies for selection of overhead line wire type and cross-section considering market conditions. All existing methodologies which are used to determine optimal cross-section for transmission line wires can be divided into two categories: deterministic and probabilistic (stochastic). This paper presents a new approach for stochastic optimization and compares it to simplified deterministic approach. The proposed method minimizes total annual exploitation and construction costs of the transmission line based on utilization of existing large and easy accessible databases (electricity prices, ambient temperature, load records). The use of the Monte Carlo methods base and above-mentioned databases allows designing a user-friendly algorithm to solve this problem.
