This project develops a mini-grid hybrid power system to provide reliable supply of clean water supply for rural areas and emergency relief conditions. This design process includes the mini-grid power system with desalination plant and economic analysis for the whole project life cycle. The mini-grid power supply introduces solar power as the sole power supply after considering the geographical conditions of rural areas that make it not viable to build transmission line interconnection with the existing National Grid. Currently, these remote areas are highly depending on diesel generators which the transportation cost of fuel is often unaffordable. Furthermore, natural disasters such as tsunami, flood, earthquake, typhoon and volcanic eruption usually results in isolated areas which creates plenty of opportunities for renewable energy applications in emergency relief conditions where the massive destruction of infrastructures for power and clean water supply usually took place. The design scenario of mini-grid power system will be utilising solar and batteries as the energy storage system. This mini-grid power system will be supplying reliable power supply for desalination plant to provide clean water supply. The economic issues that will be considered are the initial capital cost invested, the total net present cost (NPC), the cost of electricity (COE) generated by the system per kWh and the simple payback time (SPBT) for the project. In addition, this project will support the renewable energy applications to reduce the green house gas (GHG) emission as following Malaysias commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emission intensity by 40% by 2020. The simulation studies will be based on an actual set of conditions in a remote area in Pulau Tuba, Langkawi using HOMER. Experimental prototype of mini-grid inverter and desalination plant are developed to verify the reliability of power and water supply.

People in rural areas at present are still beyond the coverage of pure and fresh water for their daily usage. However, these constraints offer an opportunity for green technology to embrace the peoples needs and shortages. Vast source of solar energy and sea water allows the community to reach their dream by using desalination process to convert salty sea water to pure and fresh drinking water. This paper presents the optimization design of photovoltaic power system for desalination process of sea water located at Kuala Perlis as the selected site. The reliable and low power consumption of distillation process is selected for this off-grid power system. The optimization design includes site selection, load selection, system sizing and costing. Then, HOMER is used to verify the feasibility of this optimized design. Experimental setup is then further verified the performance of this desalination system.

Received Mar 3, 2018 Revised Apr 11, 2018 Accepted Apr 21, 2018 Paintball has gained a huge popularity in Malaysia with growing number of tournaments organized nationwide. Currently, Ideal Pro Event, one of the paintball organizer found difficulties to pair a suitable opponent to against one another in a tournament. This is largely due to the manual matchmaking method that only randomly matches one team with another. Consequently, it is crucial to ensure a balanced tournament bracket where eventual winners and losers not facing one another in the very first round. This study proposes an intelligent matchmaking using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and tournament management system for paintball organizers. PSO is a swarm intelligence algorithm that optimizes problems by gradually improving its current solutions, therefore countenancing the tournament bracket to be continually improved until the best is produced. Indirectly, through the development of the system, it is consider as an intelligence business idea since it able to save time and enhance the company productivity. This algorithm has been tested using 3 size of population; 100, 1000 and 10,000. As a result, the speed of convergence is consistent and has not been affected through big population.N. N. S. Indonesia as one of developing countries has been developed the LRT in two cities of Indonesia, Palembang and Jakarta. There are opinions toward the development of LRT, negative and positive opinions. To reveal the level of LRT development acceptance, this research uses machine learning approach to analyze the data which is gathered through social media. By conducting this paper, the data is modeled and classified in order to analyze the social sentiment towards the LRT development.Mohamad, S., Nasir, F.M., Sunar, M.S., Isa, K., Hanifa, R.M., Shah, S.M., Ribuan, M.N., Ahmad, A. 1,4,6,7,8Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Johor, Malaysia 1,2,3UTM-IRDA Digital Media Centre, Media and Game Innovation Centre of Excellence, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor, Malaysia 1,2,3Faculty of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor, Malaysia 5Centre for Diploma Studies, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Johor, Malaysia 6Research Centre for Applied Electromagnetics, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Johor, MalaysiaReceived Jan 31, 2018 Revised Apr 21, 2018 Accepted Apr 30, 2018 Bluetooth is an emerging mobile ad-hoc network that accredits wireless communication to connect various short range devices. A single hop network called piconet is the basic communication topology of bluetooth which allows only eight active devices for communication among them seven are active slaves controlled by one master. Multiple piconets are interconnected through a common node, known as Relay, to form a massive network called as Scatternet. It is obvious that the performance of Scatternet scheduling is highly dependent and directly proportionate with the performance of the Relay node. In contrary, by reducing the number of Relays, it may lead to poor performance, since every Relay has to perform and support several piconet connections. The primary focus of this study is to observe the performance metrics that affects the inter-piconet scheduling since the Relay node’s role is like switch between multiple piconets. In this paper, we address and analyze the performance issues to be taken into consideration for efficient data flow in Scatternet based on Relay node.

The chapter focuses on the environmental concerns of fossil fuel, hydroelectric, nuclear power plants as well as renewable energy generations. The environmental concerns of fossil fuel consumption have shown significant detrimental impacts emitting large amount of greenhouse gases that caused global warming. With regard to it and energy security issues, nuclear energy is considered clean and reliable energy source to some extent. However the disastrous environmental impacts since Fukushima Daiichi 2011 accidents have created negative perception toward nuclear energy. As an alternative, renewable energy resources such as solar, wind, and others are another option to be considered to meet the future energy demand due to environmental friendly and sustainability. Nevertheless, its environmental impacts need to be defined before implementation. Thus, future sustainable energy from renewable energy is highly promoted and emphasized for energy security, lower electricity cost, and a greener earth for future generation.
