ConclusionIn all of the healthy Japanese, radiographic studies of the small intestine examined with a barium suspension added 50 g or 25 g lactose displayed marked or moderate abnormalities comprising barium dilation and intestinal hurry. The results of observation after 10 g lactose load, showed moderate abnormalities in all of 4 milk-diarrhea. However, being examined by this method, about a half of healthy controls showed similar findings as well.

ConclusionThe influence of lactase preparation is able to be demonstrated significantly by means of the radiographic examination of the small intestine. As a method for diagnosis of milk intolerance, however, this procedure is evaluated unsatisfactory, because similar abnormalities showed in milk intolerance were observed in about 30% of healthy Japanese adults as well, when it carried out with 10 g lactose load.

Although there has been many reports on the relationship between chronic gastr i t is and autoimmunity, it is still equivocal to define the former as an autoimmune-disease from the immunological view point. In order to elucidate the above relationship, examination of the antibody was carried out by means of the complement fixation test, immunofluorescent method, and skin test in the patients with various stomach diseases. Except for the operated cases, diagnoses of these gastric diseases were made by means of X-ray examination and gastro camera. 1) Complement fixation test According to the method of Mayer, complement fixation test was performed, using the serum of the patients with various gastric diseases and extract of homogenized gastric mucosa of a duodenal ulcer patient. The extract ion was made according to Taylers method. The results were as follows: Positive result was obtained in various diseases, namely in 5 of 36 atrophic gastri t is (about 14%), 4 of 29 atrophic gastr i t is with ulcer, 4 of 51 ulcer, 1 of 6 polyp, 1 of 8 carcinoma, 1 of 4 SLE and only 1 of 21 healthy controls etc. However, no positive reaction was obtained in the 3 superficial-, 8 hypertrophic-gastrit is and 3 pernicious anemia. In total, 17 of 169 cases revealed positive reaction, and the age of every positive case was over 40 years, except for 1 healthy control. A significant difference in rate of positive reaction was found between groups above and under forty years of age, and sex distribution of positive cases in various diseases was unnoticiable. 2) Immunofluorescent method (IMF) Indirect I. F. M., using the gastric mucosa of the duodenal ulcer patient (Blood type 0) and non absorved anti human-T-globulin (antibody), displayed positive reaction in all the cases. However, af ter absorption with human liver-powder they all turned to negative. 3) Skin test The phosphate-butter extract of aseptic gastric mucosa-homogenate was injected intracutaneously to patients with gastric diseases. Three kinds of solution were prepared so as to contain 0.2, 1.0 and 5.0 x/ml of protein. The positive reaction was difined as erythema greater than 10ram in diameter after 15 rain. and 24 hrs. After 15 rain, except the 1, none of gastric diseases revealed positive test. While 24 hrs af ter injection of the antigen containing 5 T/ml protein, number of the positive case was as follows: 3 of 12 atrophic gastrit is, 4 of 10 ulcer, and 1 of 3 polyp. However, none of 3 carcimona, 12 gastri t is with ulcer and healthy controls was positive. Being injected phosphatebuffer as control, 3 of 50 revealed positive tests.
