Microwave Enhanced Knoevenagel Condensation of Ethyl Cyanoacetate with Aldehydes

Sang-Yun Kim; Pan-Suk Kwon; Tae-Woo Kwon; Sung-Kee Chung; Young-Tae Chang

Abstract The reaction rate of Knoevenagel condensation can be dramatically enhanced by irradiating the reaction mixture containing ethyl cyanoacetate, an aldehyde, P2O5, piperidine, and chlorobenzene with a commercial microwave oven. A number of Knoevenagel condensation products were prepared in good yields in very short reaction times (2-15min) under the microwave irradiation.

Microwave Enhanced Knoevenagel Condensation of Malonic Acid on Basic Alumina

Pan-Suk Kwon; Young-Mee Kim; Chul-Joong Kang; Tae-Woo Kwon; Sung-Kee Chung; Young-Tae Chang

Abstract: An improved Knoevenagel condensation of malonic acid and aldehydes can be achieved by microwave irradiation over alumina. A number of diacids were prepared in good yields in very short reaction times.

APPLICATION OF MICROWAVE IRRADIATION TECHNIQUES FOR THE KNOEVENAGEL CONDENSATION

Jae-Kon Kim; Pan-Suk Kwon; Tae-Woo Kwon; Sung-Kee Chung; Jae-Wook Lee

Abstract The reaction rate of Knoevenagel condensation can be dramatically enhanced by irradiating the reaction mixture containing an aldehyde, diethyl malonate, P2O5, piperidine, and chlorobenzene with a commercial microwave oven. Six Knoevenagel condensation products were synthesized within 5–15 min in good yields.

Blocking of metallic impurities in polymer EL Device by PI interlayer

Seong-Jin Cho; Tae-Woo Kwon; Dong-Sun Yoo

It has been reported that one of the major reasons of the degradation mechanism of EL devices rely greatly on metallic impurity diffusion from ITO. The impurities in MEH-PPV works as a quenching center and degradation initiator. To block impurity diffusion into PPV layer, polyimide thin film which deposited by Ionized Cluster Beam Deposition was inserted between ITO and MEH-PPV. Metallic impurity diffusion from ITO electrode were analyzed by XPS.
