Resource Management and Control in NGN Transport

Choon-Hee Kim; TaeHyun Kwon; InSang Choi; YoungWook Cha

Next generation network (NGN) is IP based broadband and integrated network of existing communication networks. This paper defines requirements of management information to perform resource admission and path computation for single-phase resource control scheme in NGN transport stratum. We also propose high-speed resource control mechanism based on parallel and single-phase scheme to minimize delay overhead between centralized resource admission control functions and transport functions.

Network management services in GSMP open interface

YoungWook Cha; TaeHyun Kwon; Choon Hee Kim; Jun Kyun Choi

General switch management protocol (GSMP) is an open interface between a label switch and a controller, and it provides connection, configuration, event, performance management and synchronization. Traditionally, network management services are classified into five categories: those are configuration, performance, fault, accounting, and security management services. Network management functions for these services can be located in the either controller or label switch. We analyzed the complexity of switch implementation and the efficiency of resource usage according to the location of network management functions in the GSMP interface. We also described each network management service and its related managed objects in the GSMP interface.

Policy Definition for Bottom-Up Recovery Scheme in Multilayer Network

JinNyun Kim; YoungWook Cha; TaeHyun Kwon; You-Hyeon Jeong; Choon-Hee Kim

For self-healing network, it is essential to deploy coordinated recovery scheme among several layers in multilayer network. By doing root-cause analysis of failures, network recovery function can be performed in the origin layer causing other failures on several layers, and as a result of this recovery function, the damage like service interruption can be prevented or minimized. This paper proposes multilayer network recovery scheme and policies, in which root-cause analysis is integrated with hold-off time of bottom-up recovery scheme.

Next generation network (NGN) is a packet-based converged network to support session and non-session services in QoS-enabled broadband transport network. QoS based resource control must be defined to support differentiated services for various applications in NGN. This paper defined parallel control mechanisms for NGN resource control interfaces to minimize session and resource control delays. We simulated the existing sequential mechanism and our proposed parallel mechanism to measure and analyze control delays and completion ratios.

Performance Evaluation of Web Services-based Topology Management in Centralized Network

InSang Choi; TaeHyun Kwon; TaeMan Han; YoungWook Cha; You-Hyeon Jeong

This paper deals with Web services-based topology management mechanism in centralized network. We verify the realization of the proposed mechanism by implementing topology management system and show the most suitable development environment by measuring and comparing the performance of bandwidth usage and round-trip delay.

Management Information and Model of GSMP Network Open Interface

YoungWook Cha; TaeHyun Kwon; Choon Hee Kim; Jun Kyun Choi

General switch management protocol (GSMP) is a network open interface between a label switch and a controller, and it provides connection, configuration, event, performance management and synchronization. There will be two considerations for network management services in GSMP interfaces. The first one is what kind of management information base will be used for network management services in GSMP interface. The second consideration is where network management functions for network management services will be located in GSMP interface. We guided the usage of management information base for each network management service. We proposed the network management model, in which management functions are distributed in a controller and a label switch according to network management services.
