Multi-layer transport network consisting of several layers provides a protection mechanism for recovery actions for survival of the transport network. The upper layer path occupies the resource of the rest of the normal link including the lower layer fault link in order to return to the path. We propose a resource management for multi-layer transport networks, to a scheme for registering a normal link resource assigned to a path in which a fault occurs, as a reusable resource. The normal link will use the low-priority traffic transmission resource and it can be to improve the resource utilization of multi-layer transport network. We also present the multi-layer resource management and path control system for the proposed scheme.

As the worlds leading technology, Optical Carrier Ethernet System is a multi-layer convergence solution towards high bandwidth and optimized path control based GMPLS control plane and management plane. We show the one smart box with one protocol engine enabling the integration of packet and optical layer telecommunication in PTN, OTN TDM and WDM transmission technology. In this paper, the results of the lab test introduced to verify the efficiency and feasibility of the automatic path control for various reliable transport tunnels in real time.

For the requirements from increased video traffic and energy efficiency, the dynamic guaranteed broadband path also required as a key function. The situation that directly affects profit and loss will lead to build low cost equipment. In packet transmission layer, MPLS-TP transport mechanism with combined with sub layer - OTN/TDM and WDM optical technology is a solution to meet the needs. Multi-layer network system will enable the telecom service provider to provide various service in real-time with reduced OPEX/CAPEX. This paper represents the implementation and the integration test result of packet-optical integrated switch with its automatic multi-layer path control. The multi-layer optimal paths in broadband network maintained in management, control and forwarding plane components. The research network test provides the verification of the functionality, performance with reliability in converged optical-circuit-packet transport.
