Attitudes and behaviors of family physicians regarding occupational diseases

ABSTRACT Objectives: The incidence of occupational diseases (ODs) is below expectations. The approaches of family physicians are very important. In this study, we aimed to evaluate attitudes and behaviors of family physicians about ODs. Methods: The questionnaire was first sent to family physicians via e-mail. Of 3663 responders, 3090 replies were included to study. Results: 44.1% of them stated they obtained detailed occupational history. In logistic regression analysis, physicians who obtained detailed occupational history, discussed their patients health with an occupational physician, had education about ODs and those who stated that they wanted to receive training in ODs were more likely to refer their patient. Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that those who received education on ODs and those who have worked as workplace physician obtained occupational history, knew occupational diseases hospitals and wanted to receive further education.

P340 Workplace occupational health and safety conditions of the turkish dietetic association members

Aim of the study was determine working life features, working environment and working conditions on occupational health and safety of Turkish Dietetic Association (TDA) members. In this descriptive type study, research group was 596 TDA members who has registered e-mail adress. Research was conducted between February and March 2016. Data was collected with online 42 item questionnaire. Analysis conducted with SPSS 15.0 software and p-value less than 0,05 was considered statistically significance result. Written permission was taken from TDA and names, surnames of the participants were not taken. In the study, 99 of 596 dietitian answered the questionnaire which forwarded by e-mail (16.7%). Majority of participants (93.6%) were women, mean age was 35.6 ± 9.4 and more than half (70.7%) have received postgraduate education. Mean weekly working hour was 39.9 ± 10,1, daily work time by sitting was 4.83 ± 2.87 and daily work time on foot was 3,03 ± 1,45. One of third (33.7%) works at weekend and nearly half of participants (46.9%) finds that working environment is inapropriate for health conditions. One in four (25.5%) considers that occupational health and safety measures are insufficient. Two in three (66.3%) of dietician were subject of verbal violence, 58.2% psychological violence, 13.3% physical violence and 10 person were subject of sexual violence at least once in their life. Top three topics about occupational health and safety education were occupational health and safety in the kitchen/catering areas, first aid, adult education/communication skills. Most important problems about profession were work stress (84.8%), relationship problems (80.8%), working position (79.8), indoor working (77.8%) and thermal conditions (75.8%). In accordance with the provisions of the relevant legislation in Turkey, it is necessary to take measures about issues like work stress, working position, indoor/noisy working conditions

Halk Sağlığı Araştırma Görevlilerinin Eğitim Süreçlerini "Mentor" Kavram Ve Yaklaşımı Kapsamında Değerlendirmeleri

In this study, we aimed to assess the knowledge and opinions of the public health residents recorded in the Society of Public Health Specialists’ inventory by August 2013 on mentoring related concepts, as well as to determine whether their training period is compatible with the requirements of mentoring idea. Materials and Methods: Two hundred and eighty three research assistants who were in the list of the Society of Public Health Specialists’ working at the 43 universities’ Public Health Departments was the universe of the study. Nevertheless, 160 residents participated in this study (participation rate=55.9%). Data was collected via electronic data collection method. Results: Mean age of the participants was 28.9±2.9. 60.8% of the research assistants started their thesis process and 69.2% of the research assistants had an advisor. The average time of determining the thesis content was9.4±10.5 months (median=2.0). 50.3% of the residents’ definition on academic advisor was found as “sufficient”. 72.0% of the residents declared that their academic plan had been completed at the beginning of their training period whereas 18.6% of them mentioned their un-satisfaction on that their expectations. 91.1% of the participants attended the internship education, 97.5% of them attended seminars, 91.1% of them attended literature classes, and 56.6% of them attended to the post graduate Public Health classes. Conclusion: In both under and post graduate medical education, the term of mentoring is need to be known accurately and to be practiced more effectively in resident training. It is recommended that the administrative bodies of Public Health departments with their academic members and the society of Public Health Specialists’ should collaboratively work to improve the current curricula and programs in this regard.
