Clinical relevance. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a practical and affordable treatment option for arresting or slowing the progression of carious lesions in primary and permanent teeth. It has become increasingly popular, but acceptance of SDF is hampered owing to tooth staining after application. Before using SDF, clinicians should know whether it is more effective than other noninvasive strategies that are more commonly used and widely accepted.
