Experiment of indoor position presumption based on RSSI of Bluetooth LE beacon

Shinsuke Kajioka; Tomoya Mori; Takahiro Uchiya; Ichi Takumi; Hiroshi Matsuo

Real-time indoor location estimation needs multiple signals from different sources. To ensure accuracy of estimation, adopting Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) beacon devices as signal sources is a reasonable solution. We have installed a number of Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) beacon devices in and around a room and observed beacons by portable devices with RSSI to achieve fundamental knowledge of beacons and feasibility of location estimation. By applying an estimation method, we have achieved over 95% of correct estimation rate and complete separation that a device is in a room or not.

Design and implementation of interactive design environment of agent system

Takahiro Uchiya; Takahide Maemura; Xiaolu Li; Tetsuo Kinoshita

The agent-based systems have been designed and developed using the latest agent technologies. However, the design and the debugging of these systems contain some difficult problems due to the situational and nondeterministic nature of the agents, and the effective design-supporting technologies have not been proposed so far. In order to make efficient design process of agent system, we propose an interactive development method of agent system based on the agent-repository-based multiagent framework which focuses on an essential feature of agent system design, i.e., the reuse of existing agents stored in the agent repository. In this paper, we propose an Interactive Design Environment of Agent system called IDEA and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, we propose a voice interaction system using 3D-CG virtual agents for stand-alone smartphones. Because the proposed system can handle speech recognition and speech synthesis on a stand-alone smartphone differently from the existing mobile voice interaction systems, this system enables us to talk naturally without encountering delays caused by network communications. Moreover, proposed system can be fully customized by dialogue scripts, Java-based plugins, and Android APIs. Therefore, developers can make original voice interaction systems for smartphones easily based on proposed system. We have made a subset of the proposed system available as open-source software. We expect that this system will contribute to studies of human-agent interaction using smartphones.

Agent interoperability mechanism among heterogeneous Agent Platforms for symbiotic computing

Takahiro Uchiya; Takahide Maemura; Xiaolu Li; Susumu Konno; Tetsuo Kinoshita

In recent years, many studies have been carried out to investigate methodologies for a problem-solving mechanism that uses interconnected computer resources. As one solution, studies of multi-agent systems which can do intelligent processing and provide flexibility to absorb the constant changes of distributed computing environment have been specifically examined. The framework that supports and facilitates such intelligent operations is known as an ldquoagent platformrdquo and various platforms such as DASH, SAGE, and JADE have been developed. In this study, we particularly address the interoperability among agents that are situated in different platforms. This paper proposes a flexible interoperability mechanism among heterogeneous agents, which enables efficient development and maintenance process of agent systems. And we demonstrate the experimental results to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Development of a dialogue scenario editor on a web browser for a spoken dialogue system

Ryota Nishimura; Daisuke Yamamoto; Takahiro Uchiya; Ichi Takumi

We developed a scenario editor to improve the environment of scenario editing for a spoken dialogue system. The purpose of this study is to improve the editing environment of the spoken dialogue system. We have developed MMDAgent (a fully open-source toolkit for voice interaction systems), which runs on a variety of platforms such as personal computers (running Windows, Mac OS, or Linux) and smartphones (running Android). So that MMDAgent can be used in a similar environment, the scenario editor is also implemented on a Web browser. Experiments were conducted for subjects using the scenario editor of our system. It was found that our system provides better readability of a scenario and allows easier editing.

Proposal for Agent Platform Dynamic Interoperation Facilitating Mechanism

Xiaolu Li; Takahiro Uchiya; Susumu Konno; Tetsuo Kinoshita

Interoperability among agent platforms is important for making full use of each platforms problem-solving capabilities. It is also crucial to the upper layer interoperations (re-organization, negotiation, etc.). Static interoperation as enabled by pre-configuration has been proposed and implemented, although no satisfactory mechanism for dynamic interoperation is available. We propose a mechanism to facilitate the dynamic interoperation between agents situated in different computers by discovering the underlying agent platforms and using that information to enable and support the interoperation process.

Design and evaluation of a movie recommendation system showing a review for evoking interested

Yuto Ishida; Takahiro Uchiya; Ichi Takumi

Purpose In recent years, e-commerce (EC) sites dealing in various goods and services have increased along with internet popularity. Now, very few EC recommendation systems present a concrete reason for their recommendations. Therefore, because user preferences strongly influence outcomes, evaluation and selection are difficult for items, such as books, movies and luxury goods. The purpose of this paper is evoking interest by showing the review as a reason for a user’s decision-making factor. This paper aims to presents the development and introduction of a recommendation system that presents a review adapted to user preference. Design/methodology/approach The system presents a review to the user, which indicates the reason for matching the item contents and user preferences. Thereby, this system enables the creation of personalized reasons for recommendations. Findings Recommendation sentences conforming to user preferences are effective for item selection. Even with a simple method, in this paper, it was possible to present a review which is an item selection factor sufficient for the user. Originality/value This system can show a recommendation sentence that conforms to a user’s preferences merely from a user profile with the tag data of a product. This paper dealt in movies, but it can easily be applied even for other items.

Proposal of follow user recommendation system on Twitter based on interest domain

Takahiro Uchiya; Yuto Ishida; Yusuke Kume; Ichi Takumi

In recent years, with the rapid spread of SNS, communication via social networks has become very active. Twitter users transmit information by posting messages, called Tweets, of fewer than 140 characters. Using a feature called Follow, users can obtain information posted by follow user according to their own interests. When using Twitter, it is difficult for users to find appropriate users to follow among the vastly numerous users. To solve this problem, we propose a follow user recommendation system on Twitter based on an interest domain. Moreover, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method through experimentation.

Design and implementation of multiagent-based distributed backup system

Motohiro Shibakawa; Takahiro Uchiya; Ichi Takumi; Tetsuo Kinoshita

Recently, information recorded on paper has been changed rapidly to digital data. Backup systems emphasize prevention of data loss by disasters, mistakes of user operations, and so on. For robust backup, it is necessary that the data be distributed geographically. Using a distributed backup system, the possibility of all data becoming lost will definitely be low. However, several problems with distributed backup systems remain. First, preparing multiple computers is expensive. Second, the computational cost of encryption and redundancy is high. Third, user workloads necessary to manage and maintain the system are great. As described herein, to overcome those problems, we propose a distributed backup system using multiagent technology. The agents can work autonomously depending on the environment.
