Student-Support Portfolio System with Students' Assessment of Their Own Level of Achievement

A JABEE educational program must be regularly improved in educational methods and educational environment. For the purpose, the program must establish a system that enhances students understanding of class work, promoting students enthusiasm to learn, while coping with students requests. The mechanical engineering departments of Kogakuin University have established a portfolio system to support students from entrance to graduation. Specifically the portfolios on students learning and life are continuously maintained, and students ledgers are arranged and updated. Furthermore, a system, by which students can assess their own level of achievement against the programs learning and educational objectives, is also introduced. The achievement level can be checked from various viewpoints so that students could improve their learning plans.
