Abstract Oxidation of [2.2]- and [3.3]paracyclophanols with benzeneseleninic anhydride readily afforded the corresponding cyclophane-o-quinones which showed the intramolecular charge-transfer interactions.

Abstract The title compounds showed unique conformational equilibria which were dependent upon the substituents in the 5,7-positions, the predominant conformers being in a syn O,S,O- cis , cis conformation with a highly deformed thiophene-2,5-dicarbonyl moiety.
