Interleaved partitioning PTS with new phase factors for PAPR reduction in OFDM systems

Jaturong Sarawong; Tanairat Mata; Pisit Boonsrimuang; Hideo Kobayashi

Interleaved partitioning partial transmit sequence (PTS) has lower computational complexity when compared with adjacent partitioning PTS and pseudo random partitioning PTS. However, the PAPR performance of interleaved partitioning PTS is worse than other methods. This paper proposes a new phase factors for Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) method with interleaved partitioning scheme, which can improve the PAPR performance as compared with the conventional PTS method, without any increasing of side information and the computational complexity.

Proposal of Time Domain Channel Estimation Method for MIMO-OFDM Systems

Tanairat Mata; Pisit Boonsrimuang; Kazuo Mori; Hideo Kobayashi

This paper proposes a time domain channel estimation (TD-CE) method for Multi Input Multi Output-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems. The feature of proposed TD-CE method is to estimate channel frequency responses for all links between transmit and receive antennas in MIMO-OFDM systems by using one scattered pilot preamble symbol in the time domain. The proposed method can achieve higher channel estimation accuracy even when the number of transmission antennas is larger and the transmission signal is sampled by a non-Nyquist rate in which the number of IFFT points is different from the number of data subcarriers due to the insertion of null subcarriers (zero padding) at the both ends of data subcarriers. This paper shows various computer simulation results in the time-varying fading channels to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed channel estimation method as comparing with the conventional channel estimation methods.

Proposal of Channel Estimation Method for Bi-Directional OFDM Based ANC in Higher Time-Varying Fading Channel

Broadband Analog Network Coding (ANC) based on OFDM has been widely investigated to increase capacity of bi-directional relay communications. The broadband ANC based on OFDM technique is required to estimate channel frequency responses (CFRs) between both user terminals (UTs) and a relay station (RS) precisely so as to remove the self-information data from the received signal and to demodulate the other users information data with frequency equalization. Many channel estimation methods have been proposed for the OFDM based broadband ANC. However bit error rate (BER) performance of these methods would be degraded relatively in higher time- varying fading channels due to the inaccurate estimation of CFR. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a CFR estimation method which can achieve better BER performance with keeping higher transmission efficiency even in higher time-varying fading channels. The salient features of proposed CFR estimation method are to enable the estimation of combined CFR at the UT for both channels between the UTs and RS by using scattered pilot subcarriers and to enable the demodulation of information data without feedback information of CFR estimated at the RS. This paper presents various simulation results in the higher time-varying fading channels to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed CFR estimation method for the bi-directional OFDM based ANC.

Proposal of PAPR reduction method for OFDM signal by re-ordering of clusters

One of the major disadvantages of OFDM technique is the high PAPR in the time domain signal. The larger PAPR signal would cause the fatal degradation of BER performance and un-desirable spectrum regrowth in the nonlinear channel. One of the promising PAPR reduction methods is the Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) method which can achieve better PAPR performance with reasonable computation complexity. But the PTS method is required to inform the side information to the receiver for the correct demodulation of data information by using the separate channel. To solve the above problem, this paper proposes a new PAPR reduction method without requiring the separate channel. The salient feature of the proposed method is to reduce the PAPR performance by reordering of clusters in the frequency domain at the transmitter and reconstructing the clusters by using the cluster ID under embedded in the data information at the receiver. The proposed method can achieve almost the same PAPR performance and computation complexity as those for the PTS method without requiring the transmission of side information. This paper presents various computer simulation results to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A low complexity improved-PTS phase coefficient searching algorithm for OFDM system

Panus Pantiko; Tanairat Mata; Pisit Boonsrimuang; Hideo Kobayashi

The Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) is well known algorithm for reducing peak-to-average ratio (PAPR) in OFDM system. The PTS can improve PAPR reduction performance relatively as increasing a number of weighting factors and clusters. However, the size of side information and computation complexity proportionally increase as increasing the number of weighting factors or/and clusters. The higher computational complexity in the phase coefficient searching makes it difficult to implement in the actual OFDM system. In this paper, we propose a low computation complexity PTS phase coefficient searching algorithm conjunction with new weighting factor. The proposed method can achieve better PAPR reduction performance and computation complexity than those for the conventional PTS method.

A new weighting factor with concurrent PAPR reduction algorithm for STBC MIMO-OFDM

Tanairat Mata; Pornpawit Boonsrimuang; Pisit Boonsrimuang; Hideo Kobayashi

Partial Transmit Sequences (PTS) method seems to be attractive for the reduction of Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system, since it can obtain better PAPR property by modifying OFDM signals without any degradation of BER performance. Meanwhile it also shows the potential capability to be utilized in MIMO-OFDM system with a concurrent PAPR reduction algorithm based on the property of orthogonal Space-Time Block Coded (STBC)[1]. On the other hand, the PTS method can improve the PAPR reduction performance very well as increasing the number of weighting factors and clusters. However, the size of side information proportionally increases as increasing the number of weighting factors or/and clutters, which are required to the receiver for recovering the original data. In this paper, we propose a new determination method for the weighting factor of PTS in conjunction with the concurrent [2] algorithm for the STBC MIMO-OFDM systems, which can improve the PAPR performance, computation complexity without any increasing of side information, and improve the BER (Bit Error Rate) performance.

Proposal of channel estimation method for wireless two-way relay system of using SFBC MIMO-OFDM technique

Tanairat Mata; Pisit Boonsrimuang; Kazuo Mori; Hideo Kobayashi

In a two-way relay communication system, two user terminals (UTs) can communicate and exchange their information data through a relay station by using two timeslots. To realize the two-way relay communication system, each UT is required to estimate channel frequency responses (CFRs) both for up and down links in two timeslots efficiently which be employed in the demodulation of the other user’s information data with frequency domain equalization. To satisfy this requirement, this paper proposes a novel CFR estimation method for the wireless two-way relay communication system of using SFBC MIMO-OFDM technique. The salient feature of proposed CFR estimation method is to employ the maximum likelihood estimation method for the proposed scattered pilot subcarriers assignment which can achieve higher CFR estimation accuracy even in higher time-varying fading channel and when the transmission OFDM signal is sampled by the non-Nyquist rate. In the proposed system, the SFBC technique is also employed for the data subcarriers both for the pilot symbols including data subcarriers and data symbols consisting of all data subcarriers in the frequency axis to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance in the two-way relay system. From the computer simulation results, this paper demonstrates the effectiveness of proposed two-way relay communication system of using SFBC MIMO-OFDM technique. To demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed two-way relay communication system of using SFBC MIMO-OFDM technique, this paper conducts various computer simulations as comparing with the conventional methods in higher time-varying fading channel. From the computer simulation results, this paper confirms that the proposed method even at the non-Nyquist rate can achieve higher channel estimation accuracy evaluated by the normalized mean square error (NMSE) and better BER performances by 5 and 22 times, respectively as comparing with the conventional methods when the normalized Doppler frequency (
