Development of Airbag Operating Algorithm with Wavelet Transform

Abstract In recent years, an airbag system has been developed for vehicle collision safety. It is important to detect the vehicle collision correctly and quickly for the airbag system. Therefore, wavelet transform is applied for processing sensor signals in order to identify the vehicle collision in a peculiar frequency. A judgment algorithm with high efficiency using the wavelet transform has been developed. Also, the technique which loads this algorithm into the microcomputer has been established.

In recent years, an air bag system and other systems have been developed for vehicle safety. The air bag system is an equipment to protect crews by inflating air bags between the crews and a steering wheel or a dash panel, if an acceleration sensor has detected the vehicle collision.In algorithm development for the air bag system, it is an important to detect the vehicle collision correctly and quickly. Therefore, we try to apply Wavelet Analysis to the sensor signals, in order to identify a peculiar frequency with the vehicle collision.As a result, we could develop a judgment algorithm with high efficiency with the Wavelet Analysis. Also, the technique which loads this algorithm into the microcomputer could be built.
