The Li2 b3Σ+g–X3Σ+u transition and a new UV absorption band

In this paper the absorption spectrum (1.0–1.7 μm) is reported and the absorption coefficient obtained both experimentally and theoretically. We believe that it results from the b3Σ+g–X3Σ+u transition. The possibility of laser action in this region in lithium vapor is discussed.
